Here is the news and weather briefing for Macon County.


GENERAL OUTLOOK

Dry high pressure will remain over the western Carolinas and northeast Georgia today through Wednesday. A cold front will approach from the west on Thursday and cross the region Thursday night through Friday morning. Dry weather returns for the weekend as another front settles south into the region. Well above normal temperatures are expected early next week.

Franklin Area

Today

Sunny, with highs in the mid 50s. Calm winds in the morning increasing to come out of the south around 5 mph in the afternoon.

Tonight

Clear, with lows in the upper 20s. Winds out of the southeast around 5 mph becoming calm before midnight.

Wednesday

Sunny, with highs near 60. Calm winds in the morning increasing to come out of the south around 5 mph in the afternoon.

Wednesday Night

Mostly clear, with lows around freezing. Winds out of the south 3 to 7 mph.

Thursday

A 20 percent chance of showers after 4pm. Partly sunny, with highs in the lower 60s.

Today

Sunny, with highs in the mid 40s. Winds out of the east 5 to 10 mph in the morning increasing to come out of the south in the afternoon.

Wednesday

Partly sunny, then gradually becoming sunny, with highs near 50. Calm winds early in the morning increasing to come out of the southwest 5 to 10 mph by midmorning.

Sunny, with highs in the upper 50s. Calm winds in the morning increasing to come out of the south 5 to 10 mph by midmorning.

Mostly clear, with lows in the mid 30s. Winds out of the south 5 to 10 mph.

Thursday

A 20 percent chance of showers after 3pm. Partly sunny, with highs near 61.

Nantahala Area

Very dry air in place across the region will permit afternoon relative humidity values to fall to between 20 and 25 percent for several hours across the region. Although winds will be fairly light from the southwest, drying fuels and brush will combine with the dry air to increase fire danger this afternoon.

Please refer to your local burn permitting authorities on whether you can burn today. If you do burn, use caution since fires can quickly get out of hand under these conditions.
