Here is the news and weather briefing for Macon County.


GENERAL OUTLOOK

Above normal temperatures and an active weather pattern will persist through the week. A frontal system will bring heavy rain and possibly a few thunderstorms to the area tonight and Wednesday. Dry high pressure briefly controls our weather Wednesday night and Thursday. A more robust low pressure tracks across the Southeastern States from Friday into the weekend bringing more heavy rain and possible storms.

Franklin Area

Today

A 30 percent chance of showers, mainly after 2pm. Cloudy, with highs in the mid-to-upper 60s. Calm winds in the morning increasing to come out of the southeast around 5 mph in the afternoon. New rainfall amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible.

Tonight

Showers. Patchy fog after 10pm. Lows around 50. Winds out of the southeast around 5 mph becoming calm before midnight. Chance of rain is 90%. New rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.

Wednesday

Showers likely, mainly before 1pm. Patchy fog before 8am. Otherwise, mostly cloudy, with highs in the mid 60s. Calm winds in the morning increasing to come out of the northwest 5 to 10 mph in the afternoon. Chance of rain is 60%. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch possible.

Wednesday Night

A 20 percent chance of showers before 9pm. Partly cloudy, with lows in the mid 40s. Winds out of the northwest 5 to 10 mph decreasing to light winds after midnight.

Showers likely, mainly before 1pm. Patchy fog before 8am. Otherwise, mostly cloudy, with highs in the mid-to-upper 50s. Winds out of the northeast 5 to 15 mph in the morning shifting to come out of the northwest in the afternoon. Winds could gust as high as 25 mph. Chance of rain is 70%. New rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.

Nantahala Area

Patchy dense fog with visibilities of one quarter mile or less is possible this morning, especially in the river valleys.

Widespread rainfall and isolated thunderstorms are expected this afternoon through Wednesday afternoon. Severe weather is unlikely and rainfall totals of 1 to 2 inches are expected by late Wednesday night.

Widespread rainfall and scattered thunderstorms are expected Friday and Saturday. Heavy rainfall and flooding are the main concerns.
