The “polls are open” cry at the North Franklin Precinct that marked the opening of the polls for the 2024 primary election in Macon County, a county in the far west of North Carolina.

Today is Primary Election Day in Macon County

Polls open at 6.30am and will close at 7.30pm. Macon Media will begin posting coverage of local results as soon as they come in. Due to a new state law that prevents local election boards from counting early votes and mail in ballots until after the polls close, results will be posted later than usual.

According to the local Board of elections, 3,563 out of 25,923 Maconians voted early in this primary. That is 13.74% of registered voters.

In 2020, a total of 9,583 Maconians (37.29% of registered voters) participated in the primary.
