Happy # 85 Rico Carty
We remember Ricardo Adolfo Jacobo Carty who was born in 1939 in San Pedro de Marcoris in The Dominican Republic.
We know him as Rico Carty who broke with the Milwaukee Braves in 1963. A year later, Rico hit .330 with 22 HR & 88 RBI. It was good enough to come in second to Richie Allen in the 1964 NL Rookie of the Year vote.
Rico had a lot of injuries but did win the 1970 NL batting title with a .366 average, 25 HR & 101 RBI. He spent much of the 1970′s as a DH with Oakland, Cleveland and Texas.
Carty retired with a .299 average, 204 HR & 890 RBI. We can only wonder what his numbers would have looked like without the injuries.
