There is widespread shock across Northern Ireland and beyond this morning after a violent attack on the street on Monday night.

A man, aged in his 40s, has been seriously injured in a knife attack in North Belfast. Unconfirmed reports on social media initially suggested the victim was a child.
In a statement issued by the PSNI, they confirmed a man in his 30s, believed to be Somalian, has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder following the serious assault.
“He remains in police custody,” the statement continued. “The injured man, aged in his 40s, is in hospital where his condition is described as serious. The attack has left the man with significant injuries to his face, neck and back.”
