The Tucson Police Department confirmed that 61-year-old Susan Gehrke died four days after a July 24 attack at an apartment complex.
Dahseir Edward Jefferson, 27, was arrested four days after the attack and initially booked on two counts of aggravated assault. …
The late grandmother’s family told KOLD the injuries left her “unrecognizable.”

Like almost everyone who commits such acts, Jefferson has a history. Via Grok:
2019–2021 cases: He was found guilty in cases from 2019 of third-degree burglary (some related charges dismissed via plea) and aggravated assault with a victim bound or restrained (a charge of aggravated assault with temporary disfigurement was dismissed).
While incarcerated: Prison records noted findings of guilt for disorderly conduct, weapon possession, tampering with a security/safety device, disobeying an order, possession of a communication device, possession of drug paraphernalia, and possession or manufacture of an intoxicating substance.
2020 incident: He was arrested in connection with the January 2020 attack and robbery of a 13-year-old boy near Park Place Mall in Tucson. Reports indicate the teen was punched multiple times and briefly knocked unconscious; the suspects also took vehicle keys. Jefferson (then listed as 21) faced charges including aggravated robbery, aggravated assault against a minor, and aggravated assault on a peace officer (he allegedly assaulted an officer during arrest).
If he would assault a teenager, why not a grandmother? Next time maybe he will go after someone in a wheelchair.
