Wedgewood Polls released a statement admitting it faked surveys in states like Michigan, Maine, and Texas as an experiment to highlight weak vetting in political polling. The bogus numbers appeared in major outlets like The New York Times and Nate Silver’s site before being removed, while only one real poll in Nebraska slipped through. Michigan state Sen. Mallory McMorrow saw her campaign suffer when a fake survey showed her at just 9% support, causing donations to dry up and volunteers to lose heart. The incident, the second such confession this cycle, has renewed calls for better scrutiny to protect candidates and public trust.
