On Saturday night, Anna Mochalova, 32, of Brighton Beach, was arrested and charged with two counts of assault in the second degree as a hate crime, one count of menacing in the second degree as a hate crime, two counts of criminal possession of a weapon in the fourth degree and two counts of aggravated harassment in the second degree, according to a criminal complaint by the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office and obtained by PEOPLE.

The first alleged attack occurred around 5:50 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 21, when Mochalova followed a man wearing traditional Hasidic Jewish clothing outside 15 W. 47th St., near Fifth Avenue, according to the criminal complaint. Prosecutors allege she cornered him against a car and stabbed him in the back with a sharp object.

The first man told police he felt a “sharp, stinging sensation” in his lower back, the complaint said.

As a result, he said he suffered a laceration to his lower back, bleeding and substantial pain and was “in fear for his immediate physical safety,” according to the complaint.

The New York Post identified the first victim as a 26-year-old rabbi.

Shortly after, at about 5:55 p.m., Mochalova allegedly followed a man wearing a yarmulke and stabbed him in his right forearm with a needle at the intersection of Sixth Ave. and W. 45th St., the complaint alleges.
