Tories demolish 200,000-strong petition to legalise cannabis before it’s even debated

The Tory government has responded to a petition campaigning for the legalisation of cannabis in Britain, but it looks like they’re ending the debate before it’s even started.
The petition has garnered well over 200,000 seals of approval, twice as many as the 100,000 required to ensure parliament allocate time for a debate. It is now the second most popular petition on the parliament website, following closely behind a bid to get Jeremy Hunt (the Health Secretary) sacked.

Substantial scientific evidence shows cannabis is a harmful drug that can damage human health. There are no plans to legalise cannabis as it would not address the harm to individuals and communities.
