17 This I say, therefore, and testify in the Lord, that you should no longer walk as the rest of[d] the Gentiles walk, in the futility of their mind, 18 having their understanding darkened, being alienated from the life of God, because of the ignorance that is in them, because of the blindness of their heart; 19 who, being past feeling, have given themselves over to lewdness, to work all uncleanness with greediness. (This is the definition of the Matrix people! L.A.)

20 But you have not so learned Christ, 21 if indeed you have heard Him and have been taught by Him, as the truth is in Jesus: 22 that you put off, concerning your former conduct, the old man which grows corrupt according to the deceitful lusts, 23 and be renewed in the spirit of your mind, 24 and that you put on the new man which was created according to God, in true righteousness and holiness.

Most of us have seen the movie The Matrix.  The take away is this: that the world is an illusion and the people are actually in a controlled hologram called the Matrix.

Matrix people are all around us.  Some of them can tell you who was the short stop for the Chicago Cubs in 1962 but can’t tell you about John 3:16.  They will talk incessantly about nothing and dominate the conversation with mindless drivel.  They don’t know and are ignorant of the things of God and so spend the hours of each day literally in futility.  In short their mind is not renewed and their spirit is dead.  It’s a very sad state of affairs.

35 years ago before I was born from above and then filled with the Spirit of the Living God, I was a matrix man.  I was caught up in worldly pursuits and building my own kingdom.  I was ignorant of the ways of The Lord.

I was in the airport a few days ago and I got my shoes shined at one of those shoe-shine stands that are in the terminal.  I was sitting in the chair and the shoe-shine man was busy attending another customer and while I was waiting I listened to their conversation, which was about as lewd as you could get.  I waited until the other patron left and then I asked: Are you aware that ancient prophecies talk about the earthquakes, wars, and troublesome times that we are living in?

That got his attention and the mans face changed and then he said: I’m not praying like I should and I need to get back to my Bible.

We then had a good “chat” and I admonished him that today was the day he needed to get back to the Truth.

There are people who are caught up in worldly pursuits, and while it is a good thing to plan for the future, it is The Lord who guides our steps and directs our paths.

Are you spending hours every day playing video games?  You’re caught up in the matrix.

Are you obsessed with your favorite team winning or loosing?  You are a Matrix person!

I know of a man who has recorded every Laker game for the last 20 years.  He has a stack of DVD’s in his home and he presents them proudly to anyone who shows an interest. Matrix man?  You bet.

There are men who are caught in the web of pornography which is like barbed wire in the mind.  Matrix anyone?

There are women who know everything about what the Kardashian’s are doing but never spend a minute in the word. Welcome to the Matrix.

In closing todays Bun.  We are to renew our minds by washing them with the word.  It is a good way to start the day, by reading from our swords—our bibles—by centering our thoughts on the truth, on Him who has redeemed us, and given us a new life and a new man.  As long as we are here on this planet there will be Matrix People that we will have to deal with.  However, we can steer the conversation away from the trivial to the eternal.  We can choose to leave a situation if the talk degrades into lewdness.  One more story.  I was playing golf once and I was teamed up with a person who was using the name of Jesus as a curse word.  After the third time, I had enough and I told him that I was a pastor and if he persisted on using the name of my Lord and savior as a curse word then he would have to finish the round by himself because I wasn’t going to tolerate it for another minute.  He apologized and we finished the round.  He was a Matrix man caught up in the world with no clue.  Think on this…
