COSMIC BREADCUMBS

There is no doubt what we call the fringe subculture was nurtured by late night radio and then it was propelled into a more popular position with TV shows like the X-Files and solidified as “conspiriology” on the internet. It is argued that emerging world views have been shaped by the fringe subcultures.

The mainstream media is actually trying to keep up with the changes in the metaphoric cultural weather and the barometer of seismic change that shakes up the paradigm.

The difficulty in being part of the maligned fringe is you have to deal with those who immediately dismiss anything that is uncomfortable or inconvenient conversation. The objective is to reveal what is called the “big lie” and to do so, we also have to admit that we can lie to ourselves.

One of the biggest liars we have to deal with is ourselves – all of the hopes we have, the fears, the biases, and psychological defenses, that in a clandestine way try to distort our perception of the world and how we react to it.

The mind has to be open and objective. No one has to compromise ethics or core beliefs, however, we all would benefit from a reasonable compromise between being naively trusting and pathologically paranoid.

There are many people we trust who are telling us the truth, but when it comes to sensitive material, or matters or national security, the public has to understand there are limits to what the alphabet agencies call “Intelligence.”

That is why it may be beneficial to do the work yourself, meaning not relying heavily on the messenger but become someone who can testify to the validity of what can be called paranormal activity by experimenting with it all by yourself or with a small group.

Your findings may surprise you.

Although you must realize that during your experiment, the universe never just hands you a bundle of paranormal proof. Sometimes it can be a daunting task that takes a lot of times. Days can go by, or weeks or even month where something that can be shown as compelling evidence can be dropped in your lap.

Until then, we always end up with what can be called cosmic breadcrumbs. Scraps of what are pieces of the puzzle rather than the whole puzzle.

These may be valuable and every little bit, every dot connected can lead you to a major discovery or answer questions you may have about the world, albeit the paranormal world that surrounds you.

As a ‘paranormalphile’ I find myself going in and out of the extraordinary because of many distractions of conspiracy and cover-up that emerge in the news every day. That is why those who are new to the show wonder why I jump from peak to peak with regards to news.

Many think that there is no room for the paranormal; however, I have always illustrated that the normal news sometimes is distracting from the strange news and the hunches that remain in the margins because they seem so unbelievable.

Edward Snowden, the former contractor who leaked National Security Agency secrets publicly in 2013, is now getting attention for an odd subject: aliens.

In a podcast interview with astrophysicist Neil deGrasse Tyson, Snowden suggested that alien communications might be encrypted so well that humans trying to eavesdrop on extraterrestrials would have no idea they were hearing anything but noise. There’s only a small window in the development of communication in which unencrypted messages are the norm, Snowden said.

“So if you have an alien civilization trying to listen for other civilizations, or our civilization trying to listen for aliens, there’s only one small period in the development of their society where all of their communications will be sent via the most primitive and most unprotected means,” he said.

After I head this statement – I was reminded of test that took place where a college student sent up into the sky a large balloon. The balloon was equipped with infrasound recording equipment to record the sounds of the earth. The balloon ended up climbing 22 miles into the sky which is 3 times higher than what planes fly at.

Infrasound microphones can pick up sound at frequencies below 20 hertz per second – the lowest threshold of the human hearing range. The balloon floated over New Mexico and Arizona for 450 miles and it started to pick up typical static and something else that sounded like it was right out of the X-Files.

I received a file of this sound and I recall amplifying what I called the dead space between static bursts. I realized while wearing headphones that the truly bizarre noises were just under the volume that can be heard by the human ear.

Snowden suggested that if humans overheard aliens communicating amongst themselves — if humans were to pick up the alien version of a telephone call or television broadcast — it might be so well encrypted that it would be invisible among the radio chatter of the natural universe.

What he had to say struck me as being very interesting because back in 1990’s – I wrote about a phone booth that was located out in the middle of nowhere in the Mojave Desert. The weird part is that you would call the number—it would ring and then there would be a strange tone and then it would tell you the number was being directed to a phone exchange and then nothing.

Not a sound not a peep—just dead air.

You were encourage to keep calling until someone just happened to be calling at the same time or just happen to be near the phone booth. Well, your chance of a conversation were minuscule, however, there was one time I called and got the voice of an old woman who needed to get gas and water for her home.

She decided to pull over and make a call. The biggest city nearest to the phone booth is Las Vegas, 75 miles away. In order for the woman to have power, she must use gasoline generators in order to live normally. She said that she travels 50 miles to get her mail, food and other things.

If you were given the number to the booth and you knew that there was a small chance of making contact with someone would you call the number?

Here is the number: 760-733-9969.

Now you have the number would you assume that no one would ever answer and so you wouldn’t try to call or you would give up?

My staff and I tried the number twice, this after nearly 20 years —no one was there to answer only the voice of the operator that sent us to the phone for a conference – no one was there to join us.

I then read that the booth had been vandalized but somehow the number and phone has survived—somewhere out in the desert, there is still a telephone—and there may be someone out there to receive the call, and answer.

Can anyone see how this is a metaphor for what Snowden is saying?

Imagine if you kept dialing the number every day. You may feel a bit stupid as you continue to call a place that is believed to be desolate and void of any intelligent life. Of course we know there is life in the desert, but the majority of life is unable to pick up a telephone to strike up a conversation. Every once in a while there is a passerby who uses the phone.

There is at least one other place that I know of that is dark and desolate and there aren’t too many people who pass through – Outer Space. We have been told that there is life out there—it may not be able to communicate with us.

However, there may be someone or something passing through. At least that’s what we have been told, or many people believe.

If there is no life out in space then a phone call or a signal is worthless. But what if the signal is something we can’t understand?

More than just beeps and scrapes but encrypted intelligent sounds in the dead spaces; the spaces where many scientists fail to look.

Astronomer Dr. Frank Drake came up with the Drake equation to estimate the probability of intelligent life in a given area of space, capable of communication. Using mathematics and theory Drake teamed up with Carl Sagan and came up with the probability of 100,000 to 1,000,000 extra-terrestrial civilizations existing in the Milky Way galaxy. This increases as science gets closer to proof of life elsewhere in the cosmos.

Is there a need for man to reach out and find out if he is all alone in the universe? Is it superstition or religion that fuels the fire of our interest? We now have the technology as rudimentary as it may seem to prove whether or not we are alone.

It is obvious to me that the reason why probes are sent out, the reason why calls are made into space is because deep down people feel that there is something out there.

It is like trying to find life capable of answering a phone in the middle of the desert, or trying to get a reply to a radio message put in a bottle and thrown into the sea.

Radio isn’t the only way to find aliens, though it remains the cheapest and most promising at the moment. There are SETI experiments searching for flashing lights, whether visible spectrum or longer-traveling infrared.

Recent exoplanet discoveries have heightened hopes that intelligent life is out there.

Research published in 2013 in the journal, Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, estimated that some 22 percent of stars have Earth-size planets in their habitable zones.

This is what I call cosmic breadcrumbs… little pieces of the puzzle that make us think and ponder just how we are going to understand the methods of proving that life exists in space.

Life could be anywhere. And there’s always the chance humanity will stumble across it by accident, just like calling a phone booth somewhere in the desert.
