Think of all the ancient cultures, their calendars, and their megaliths aligned with the solstices and stars. It dawned on me that they followed these alignments not so much for religion (though that was or became part of it), but for an early indication of another impending catastrophe such as Noah’s flood. When the solstices aligned properly with the megaliths, there was a cause for celebration because it meant all was right with the planet. This celebration may have prompted worship and thanksgiving to a culture’s deities and explains the religious significance of solstices. An interesting area of study may be to find pre-cataclysmic ruins that were aligned with heavenly bodies before an orbital or axis shift hit the Earth. I wonder if there are any ancient relics that point to and measure the displacement of alignments before and after a catastrophe.
