My granny use to say “Nothing is really that long ago. Someone alive today knew someone who was alive during the Civil War” Although the Civil War ended like 156 years ago, some 80-100 year olds alive today knew of 80-100 year olds when they were younger. Revolutionary war was over 200 years ago, so someone alive today knew someone who knew someone who was alive during the Revolutionary war.

Im 40 and my dad’s dad was born in 1895 and his dad was in the Civil War. Great Grandpa married a woman when he was in his 50s who lived until late 70s. So if I had been born a decade earlier, I would have known a woman who knew a man who was a soldier in the Civil war. Lisa Gibson
