Lake Havasu City in Arizona is considered haunted, with the London Bridge being the epicenter of local paranormal legends. Since being transported from England and rebuilt in 1971, reports suggest that the bridge brought centuries of British history, violence, and spirits with it. Tourists that have visited the bridge say that they feel a lot of dark energy.
Rebuilt in 1971, this historic landmark is believed to be haunted by multiple spirits from its time in London, including a London bobby and a woman in black. The metal for the lamp posts on the bridge is rumored to be made from melted-down cannons of Napoleon Bonaparte’s army. Despite the macabre history of severed heads and violent deaths attached to the original structure, some believe the spirits visiting the Arizona location are friendly, while other paranormal investigators find the bridge unsettling. Some investigators have felt nauseated while on the bridge. Other investigators have lost vertigo while on the bridge and when they are away from the bridge, they feel normal again. Some theorists and paranormal investigators suggest that the spirit of Jack the Ripper is attached to the bridge, as many of his crimes occurred near the original structure in London. Visitors have reported hearing screaming voices coming from underneath the bridge and in the closed maintenance tunnels. The submerged ghost town of Liverpool Landing lies underneath the waters of Lake Havasu. Some drivers and pedestrians report feeling followed by dark shadows while crossing the bridge.
The London Bridge Specters:
As mentioned above, the most prominent specters on this bridge is a “woman in black” who is decked out in Victorian clothing. She will walk alongside the bridge and then with a blink of the eye, she will leap off the bridge. Then afterwards a “Bobby” aka London Policeman acts like he is looking for the woman in black. Other times people will see the Bobby who acts like he is patrolling the bridge. Blood-curdling screams and disembodied voices have been reported coming from the tunnels and under the structure. Adding to the eerie atmosphere, the ruins of a “ghost town,” known as Liverpool Landing, lie submerged beneath the water in the lake.
Crack in the Mountain Trail:
Many hikers claim that they have seen a ghostly hiker who will appear out of nowhere, act like he is hiking and then vanish into thin air. One hiker said he encountered the Crack in the Mountain Hiker and the entity whispered in his ear…”watch your step!” About 15 feet away was a rattlesnake that looked like it was ready to strike. What is amazing, the same thing happened to me. I had a group of investigators with me, and we were investigating an abandoned high school, I captured an EVP that said: “watch your step” and 5 feet in front of me was a huge rattlesnake. My investigators and I, ran from that area as quickly as possible. I’m not scared of ghosts, but I am sure as heck, scared of rattlesnakes! It appears that some ghosts have good intentions and want to make sure you are safe. I am very thankful to that ghost in Texas.
Oatman, Arizona (Ghost Town)
One hour, down the road is Oatman, Arizona, a historic gold-mining ghost town along Route 66. This ghost town is famous for paranormal activity centered around the Oatman Hotel. Visitors and staff frequently report disembodied whispering, random toilet flushing, self-moving objects, and ghostly encounters from lingering spirits. The town’s haunted reputation is tied to its gold-rush history and legendary visitors. Reported paranormal activity includes The Hollywood Honeymooners. The second floor of the hotel features the famous room where Clark Gable and Carole Lombard supposedly stayed after their 1939 wedding in nearby Kingman, Arizona. Visitors often report hearing mysterious whispering and laughing in this room when it is completely empty. One of the most infamous resident spirits is “Oatie,” an Irish miner who allegedly drank himself to death at the hotel. He is known as a mischievous poltergeist who enjoys playing the bagpipes, opening windows in locked rooms, and pulling sheets off display beds. The ghost of a former chambermaid is said to haunt the second floor, leaving physical imprints of her body in the dust. Downstairs, patrons have reported phenomena such as money lifting off the bar, glasses flying through the air, and lights turning on and off on their own. Today, the Oatman Hotel no longer operates as an overnight accommodation but serves as a museum, restaurant, and tourist attraction where you can explore the haunted upper levels. Some tourists claim that they have seen the ghost of Olive Oatman. The town itself takes its name from Olive Oatman, who was captured by the Tolkepaya (Western Yavapai) in 1851. After spending several years living with the Mojave people (during which she received a traditional blue facial tattoo), she was traded back to American settlers in 1856 near what is now Yuma, Arizona, becoming a massive symbol of American frontier survival. The famous gunslinger Wyatt Earp has visited Oatman, Arizona. Historians note that he frequently traveled to and from the settlements of northwestern Arizona, which would have naturally taken him through Oatman and Goldroad on the fledgling roads that eventually became the famous Route 66.
