HAUNTED TULLOCH CASTLE HOTEL IN DINGWALL, SCOTLAND
Tulloch Castle Hotel in Dingwall, Scotland, is widely considered one of the country’s most actively haunted properties.Its long and turbulent history, including 12th-century origins, a time as a makeshift Dunkirk hospital, and secret passageways, has fueled numerous paranormal accounts. One of the most popular ghosts that hang out at Tulloch Castle is The Green Lady. The castle’s most famous resident ghost is the Green Lady (believed to be Elizabeth Davidson), whose portrait hangs in the Great Hall. She is frequently sighted wandering the halls and stairwells.

Guests and ghost hunters have reported cold patches, unexplained orbs, and sudden drops in temperature. Then step in the spooky vibes of Room 8. Considered a hotspot for paranormal activity, the room has been the source of reports of figures at the foot of the bed, rattling door handles, and even feelings of a ghost pressing down on guests’ chests.

The Humberstone and Santa Laura Saltpeter Works in the Atacama Desert are widely considered “haunted”. While there are no scientific or verified records of paranormal activity, they are literal ghost towns that possess a deeply eerie and atmospheric reputation. Local legends and ghost-hunting enthusiasts frequently point to the abandoned mining camps as hotspots for supernatural occurrences. Visitors and guides often recount stories of hearing footsteps, faint whispers, or the echoing sounds of heavy machinery operating at night when the towns are completely empty. Ghosthunters also hear the pounding of rocks. Ghosthunters says that the pounding of rocks originate with the Saltpeter Tommy Knockers. The area ws built by laborers (pampinos) in the 19th and early 20th centuries, the mines were known for brutal working conditions, exploitation, and tragic accidents. The sudden economic collapse during the Great Depression led to the towns slowly withering away until their final abandonment in 1961. Many locals believe the lingering trauma of the laborers who suffered and died in the desert has left a restless spiritual presence. The reputation of Humberstone is often linked to the nearby abandoned mining camp of La Noria. La Noria is the subject of more intense, localized ghost stories, including long-standing urban legends about apparitions roaming the old cemetery and streets.

LA NORIA ABANDONED MINING CAMP
La Noria, an abandoned 19th-century saltpeter mining camp in Chile’s Atacama Desert, is widely considered one of the spookiest ghost towns in Latin America. It is infamous for its decrepit, open-air cemetery where shallow graves and exposed skeletal remains have fueled generations of paranormal legends. Following deadly epidemics and brutal working conditions in the 1800s, the town’s hastily built cemetery was filled to capacity. Today, many graves and wooden coffins are left wide open, exposing the remains of past miners and slaves. Locals and visitors report seeing dark, full-body apparitions, shadow figures wandering the streets, and hearing phantom screams, footsteps, and disembodied voices echoing through the desert. Legend among locals claims that the restless dead rise from their open, desecrated graves to walk the deserted streets of the town at night. Situated just a few miles from its equally famous sister mining town of Humberstone, La Noria sits as a desolate, baked ruin. Because of the extreme heat, the exposed human remains, and the rugged, isolated nature of the desert, local neighboring towns in Chile consider the site highly dangerous and strongly advise against touring it without a guide. CHATEAU MIRANDA, BELGIUM
Château Miranda (also known as Château de Noisy) in Celles, Belgium, has a major reputation for being haunted. This sinister reputation stems from its dramatic history as a Nazi-occupied stronghold during World War II and its later use as a children’s orphanage. Because of its decaying neo-Gothic architecture and troubled past, it became a hotspot for urban explorers and ghost hunters. While you won’t find any verified paranormal activity, paranormal enthusiasts and dark-tourism fans were drawn to the location due to a few key factors. Let’s take a nose-dive into those factors. Between 1950 and the late 1970s, the castle was used as a holiday camp and orphanage. The concept of abandoned, institutionalized children fueled local folklore and ghost stories. Another factor was that during the Battle of the Bulge, the property was occupied by Nazis. The castle was completely abandoned in 1991 and quickly fell into a state of severe disrepair. Its collapsed roofs, dark corridors, and overgrown grounds made it an ideal setting for real-life horror narratives. However, the haunting stories are now entirely part of history. Despite public protests and preservation initiatives, the site owners applied for a demolition permit, and the castle was completely torn down between October 2016 and 2017. Special Note: Even though the Chateau was destroyed, I would still love to investigate the land in which this Chateau stood. Not only was the Chateau haunted, but the property is haunted.

HELLTOWN, OHIO
Helltown (officially Boston Mills) in northern Summit County is not technically haunted, though it is Ohio’s most famous urban legend. The “hauntings” are a collection of folklore stemming from the 1974 federal government seizure of the area for the Cuyahoga Valley National Park.The sudden displacement of residents left behind boarded-up, empty houses, which locals quickly filled with ghost stories. The persistent myths include a Satanic Church. The local Presbyterian church, sometimes rumored to host cult meetings, featured upside-down crosses. In reality, these were simply architectural flourishes. Another story is the “Crybaby” Bus. An abandoned school bus is rumored to hold the ghosts of children. It was actually the temporary home of a local family while their house was being repaired. Then it is said that Toxic Mutants roam around the town. A nearby abandoned dump (the Krejci Dump) leaked toxic chemicals, prompting government cleanup and birthing local myths of mutated humans and a giant “Peninsula Python” snake. Talking with a paranormal group called the OSO (Ohio Special Operations), they said the urban legends that you hear about Helltown were inspired by hillbilly horror movies like The Hills Have Eyes (1977); Wrong Turn (2003); Deliverance (1972) and The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (1974). OSO says that the urban legends of Helltown were also fueled by the true stories of mutant dogs living at Chernobyl. Stanford Road was rumored to look like it dropped off into a cliff, with legends stating the road would violently seize control of cars. While many of the abandoned structures have since been demolished by the National Park Service, the eerie history and lingering folklore makes the area a popular spot for ghost hunting enthusiasts.
