So, you’ve decided that you are ready to move home. This now means your home needs to go up for sale so you need to ensure that your property looks the part to potential buyers. First of all, take a look at the things that you need to consider within your property and area:

  • Make sure that your windows and doors are clean and paint any aspects which may be looking shabby.

  • Tidy your garden, especially around autumn/winter. Remove any weeds. Replace any plants that are dead.

  • Place plants around your front door, these give a nice welcoming feeling.

  • Any dustbins that are in view need to be hidden away so they are not the first thing seen by a potential buyer.

For a viewing to be successful a potential buyer needs to be able to see themselves living in the home they are viewing. To improve the way your home looks, follow these tips:

  • Clean and Tidy: Make sure your home is always clean and tidy as this will help potential buyers see beyond your belongings.

  • Repairs: Any small repairs that need doing need to be done before a viewing so there is little to criticize.

  • Temperature: Switch on your heating before a viewing to ensure your home feels warm and welcoming to prospective buyers.

  • Allow Light In: To portray a good sense of space and airiness, make sure all blinds and curtains are left open. Where possible also leave your lights on during a viewing.

  • Kitchens and Bathrooms: Make sure that these areas are clean, tidy and free from mould. Try and put away any clutter in your bathroom, and in the kitchen, keep your worktops tidy and clear.

  • Decoration: If your property needs decorating then remember to keep it simple and neutral so that it will appeal to all.

  • Use Rooms For What They Are Intended: It is not unusual to use a room for a different purpose to what it is for. For example, a bedroom may be used as a study. However, when a prospective buyer comes to view your home, it is best to change the room into what it is supposed to be used for. For example, if you are marketing a room as a study, make sure it is set up as a study as many buyers will struggle to see what it is for other than what they can see in front of them.

  • Pets: Not everyone loves animals, so try and keep your pets out of sight. Particularly if you have any overly excitable pets.
