6 Delicious Budget-Friendly Wines Under $10 is a post originally published on: Everything Finance – Everything Finance – Its all about Money!

I am a person who greatly enjoys a decent glass of wine at night while cooking or after the kids go to bed. After all, parenting is hard work! Now, this doesn’t mean the same thing to everyone, of course. But, to me, a decent glass of wine is something that has a diverse array of flavors and is smooth going down. And, in typical fashion, it also won’t cost me an arm and a leg. Throughout the years I’ve gotten pretty good at narrowing down some pretty palatable wines in the lower cost genre. So, I wanted to pass that knowledge along to any of you that may be on the hunt for some decent budget-friendly wines.

1. Chariot Gypsy

Chariot Gypsy is one of the first red wine blends that I fell in love with, many moons ago. This one is a blend of 4 different grapes that give it a very round flavor. This wine is not highly tannic, which is my preference. Chariot Gypsy has a really delicious finish with notes of cherry, plum, and spice. It’s very robust and flavorful but won’t cost you a bundle to purchase. Around me, a bottle usually costs $5.99, but that will vary depending upon where you live.

The only caveat is that it currently can only be found at Trader Joe’s. So if you don’t have a Trader Joe’s near you, then you’re probably out of luck. On the up side, they used to only deliver Chariot Gypsy to the stores once a year, so it was harder to procure. But in recent years, it is more regularly available for me to partake in. Which I am pretty darn happy about!

2. Apothic Dark

I have just recently found Apothic Dark and am in love! When I first found this wine, I wasn’t sure how I felt about such a dark wine. I already knew that I liked the Apothic blend, but this one was new to me. I have to say that it is definitely a really dark red wine. Which can be intimidating to a lot of us. But, the flavor profile is out of this world!

If you really like coffee, cocoa and cherry notes in your red wine, then this one is what you’ve been looking for. I love how smooth and robust this wine is. I actually have a really difficult time not drinking the whole darn bottle at once. And, since I’m usually able to find it between $7.99 – 8.99, it’s not breaking my grocery budget either.

3. Riunite Lambrusco

Riunite Lambrusco has been one of my favorite wines for almost as long as I can remember now. As someone who used to be a white wine drinker, this was the gateway wine for me to cross over to reds. I realize it sounds silly, but Lambrusco is a slightly carbonated red wine. And, it’s a bit on the sweeter side also. This makes is an easier bridge to move over from white to red.

The Riunite Lambrusco also has a very nice, clean finish. It’s not tannic at all, so it won’t leave your mouth feeling like cotton balls have been stuffed in it. I have been able to find it in most major retailers also, so it’s a bit more widely available than some of the other wines. Plus, most of the time I can find a bottle for anywhere from $5.99 – $7.99, so it’s definitely high up on my budget-friendly wines list.

4. Espiral Vinho Verde

Espiral Vinho Verde has been one of my other newer white wine finds. This particular wine can be fairly easily found in many different stores, which is helpful for a lot of us. Espiral Vinho Verde is another wine that has a slight carbonation, which is great for summer drinking.

It has a lot of citrus notes to it, with a slight floral nose. There are a lot of grapefruit, lemon and tangerine flavors on the back end. But, ultimately, it’s very light and inviting and awesome for warmer weather. In my area, I’ve been able to pick up a bottle for around $5.99.

5. Floriana Gruner Veltliner

The Floriana Gruner Veltliner is a very interesting wine, in the world of white’s. Since I am personally not a big white wine fan, I was hesitant to try it. But, the Gruner Veltliner is akin to a blend of Chardonnay and Riesling, which piqued my interest. It’s a very crisp, light and slightly carbonated wine. Which was a great surprise to me!

The flavor profile is slightly of green apple and lemon. So, if you like a citrus flavor profile in your wine, then you may want to give this one a try. And, as an added bonus, I’ve been able to track down a bottle for only $6.99.

6. Sierra Pines

Sierra Pines has been one of my most recent budget-friendly wine finds. They have a few different options by this brand, which makes it a crowdpleaser for most wine drinkers. They offer a Merlot, Cabernet, Chardonnay, Pinot Grigio and White Zinfandel at our local Lidl stores. I usually drink the Merlot or Cabernet, and sometimes even get really crazy and blend them.

Both of the red wines by Sierra Pines are easy to drink and have a good, slightly tannic finish. There are some slight chocolate and plum notes to the Merlot, but the Cabernet is a bit smoother of a drink. Either way, if you are in the market for some REALLY budget-friendly wines, then these should be your first stop since they come in at only $2.89 a bottle!
