Ferguson Cops Tell Oath Keepers to Stand Down and They Do

Ferguson cops have told the volunteer group, Oath Keepers, to stand-down and stop their patrols in Ferguson, Missouri. An undisclosed number of Oath Keepers had decended on Ferguson after the grand jury decision to not indicte Officer Darren Wilson over the death of the unarmed African-American victim, Mike Brown.
Founded in 2009 by, Stweart Rhodes, the Oath Keeper’s organization is now made up of 35,000-members who are law enforcement officers, current and former military personnel, and first responders; all of which have vowed to protect the Constitution, come what may. In the case of Ferguson, they intended to focus on reigning in looters and vandals as well as protecting average protesters from officials whose “riot control tactics” violate the demonstrators’ constitutional rights according to the group.
CBS St, Louis reports,
Police questioned group members early in the week and allowed them to stay. But Saturday, after media inquiries, St. Louis County police officers ordered the Oath Keepers to leave the rooftops.
Threatened with arrest for operating without a license, the volunteers argued but eventually left their positions early Saturday, [Stewart] Rhodes said.
“We are going to go back as protesters,” Rhodes said Saturday afternoon.
By all accounts, business owners and residentys seemed happy to have the Oath Keepers there looking out for them. It is unclear why the media asking about them triggered officials to shut them down.

Ummmm Oath keepers standing for the Constitution, ordered to stand down. In my eyes the stand down order was a order to suspend the Constitution. Did the oath keepers stand down if so there goes my respect for that group. Of all the groups out there willing to stand for the Constitution, I thought these guys were worthy of my support. I am rethinking that decision.
