Layman’s Note on Future Police;  

A dozen years ago I got out of California and moved to Hooterville Colorado… Nice quite place where the streets roll up at 9pm on weeknights, no protests, no looting, ANTIFA would pee their pants if they tried to start anything round here. Mostly working folks. Probably 9 out of 10 on this block are likely armed. It is a diverse and respectful community. The cops are cool too, at least what I’ve seen of them 

In Hooterville, we watch the news like everyone else, but we might look on it differently… Hell, let the cities burn… no matter to us. Can’t understand why any sane person would willingly live in one. Looting? Don’t believe there’s a Nike store in town, or any other high-end retailers for that matter.  We are, however, taking gentlemen’s’ bets on whether police departments in big cities will be defunded, disbanded, or the police persons themselves will just quit en mass for lack of appreciation.  

Policemen have marketable skills. When the need for private security services becomes “A Thing” (and it soon will) Trained Police Persons now in the public sphere will go private sector with more compensation and better work environment than they have now.  Their services will be in demand. 

Any fan of Sci-Fi will have read of future societies and their private cops, militias and private armies. Pretty standard fare… Gated Neighborhood private cops, corporate security forces and municipalities subcontracting out policing like they now do with correctional services and probation supervision. 

Also, current police persons, having been abused and mistreated by the public for faithfully doing a pretty-much thankless job, will be ripe for the picking by private security providers.  Private security providers could offer them work in “Known” areas, by excluding crappy neighborhoods and/or dangerous venues. Affluent areas will be quick to cobble together private police departments. 

The biggest losers in this scenario will be the less affluent neighborhoods who will have to rely on standard city supplied cops. When more affluent neighborhoods figure out that they can opt-out of paying for policing they don’t need, the less affluent neighborhoods will have to pay a higher price for ever decreasing levels of service. Municiple cops will be subject to more and stiffer budget pressures (and more likely to supplement their income via Graft. 

This Layman is pretty certain that private security startups are happening now. I’ve thought about doing it myself inasmuch as starting an employment services clearinghouse to mate ex-military/ex-police employee hopefuls  with interested employers / groups. 

In the near future, I suspect that, the very people that are now spouting off about defunding, or disbanding the police, will rue the day when they see what that all really means for their lives.  

[ I personally hope that Pres. Trump makes good on his threat to deal with the Seattle Anarchist / Terrorist group there. Send in a stiff shot of the FBI with a National Guard chaser a la Wacko, TX. GIVE THEM 4 HOURS TO SURRENDER, UNCONDITIONALLY.... (because these snowflake anarchists cannot even decide in 4 hours what type of vegan latte to have delivered), then shoot the place up liberally, and arrest anyone that is still alive, figure out how many were involved in planning / carrying out the operation, then repopulate Guantanamo Bay  with them (incommunicado because under the Patriot Act, Terrorists have got Zero Rights) and then water-board them until we have a clear map-out of their organization chart, funders, leaders, sympathizers, etc... That would be a hoot!
