Sen. Mike Lee Stands Up to Liberal Google

Warren Buffet is certainly not the only rich guy who wants to raise taxes on the American people.  In a Linkedin Town Hall meeting, former Google executive Doug Edwards – who is not employed by choice — pleaded with the president to “please raise my taxes”

One of the country’s most innovative columnists Tim Carney has pointed out that Edwards has given 300,000 to politicians since 2000 – every single cent going to Democrats.  Not surprising.

This is typical both of liberals and apparently Google executives who will spend their personal fortunes to elect liberal Democrats at every turn. Just last week, Google’s Chief Executive donated the maximum allowed by law to the Democratic National Campaign Committee. 

This liberal activism has blunted criticism on the Left of Google’s growing market dominance and power.  While the Left pushed anti-trust enforcement actions against Microsoft and even attempted to block the merger between Sirius radio and XM, they turn a blind eye when it comes to Google.

The inherent contradiction is evident by the silence of Left wing criticism of Google’s market dominance.  Sen. Mike Lee (R-UT) aggressively quizzed Google executive Eric Schmidt at a recent hearing of the Senate Judiciary Committee.  Remarkably, Schmidt even admitted that the company might be a “monopoly.”

To his credit, Lee is ignoring Google’s effort to placate the Republican establishment by hiring lobbyists with connections to the GOP and donating money to groups like the Ripon Society. 

All this positioning is, of course, a ruse – an attempt to play the Beltway politics game to buy friends and influence people.  

Lee has touched the tip of the Google iceberg.  Google has used their connections in Washington and the Obama Administration to get government contracts and push policies that will protect their bottom line at the expense of everyone else.

Google is a liberal juggernaut.  Sen. Lee is correct to try to slay the dragon.
