Railway To Death Row, a Film about How a Bad Cop Framed Debra Milke

Dutch Actress Carice van Houten and Debra Milke are a perfect match!

Phoenix, AZ—The shocking story of the wrongful arrest, trial, conviction and death sentence of Debra Milke is now on the fast track to a happy ending. A federal appeals court panel finally reversed the convictions and death sentence.

The fight is not over but mathematically the chances of the latest court ruling being overturned are miniscule. Prosecutors have begun their futile appeal efforts yesterday. This appeal by prosecutors could only prolong the inevitable clearing of Milke’s name and record by well over a year. With any luck Milke will get a bail hearing before a judge and be free while prosecutors continue to victimize this woman.

Understandably some cops and prosecutors are now in quite a panic because of the criminal Civil Rights violation probe by the Justice Department requested by the court. This scandal is sure to widen with many other cases where similar misconducted was committed by corrupt cops and prosecutors.

Aside from the horrible and tragic side of this mess there is a fascinating, shocking and spellbinding story that unfolded before my very eyes over these decades. Now thankfully that story is on its way to a happy ending.

I’ve been close to every aspect of this case from my early exclusive TV interviews with Debra Milke. I’ve known for sure the entire time that the Phoenix cop’s claim she confessed was pure hogwash. I’ve investigated every aspect of the case for scores of news organizations and documentary filmmakers. I’m really the only person to have had a ringside seat for this epic fight from day one.

For me it’s been a painful and at times a downright miserable experience to watch the suffering while Milke’s sad plight was ignored by every government official or half of this woman’s entire life. Many people ridiculed me for trying to expose this awful travesty over the years.

For me this is a story that I must tell as a feature film and a book. I have completed a screenplay already and am looking for the right film producer to put the project together. The book is still waiting in the wings.

I have my heart somewhat set on the incredible award willing Dutch actress, Carice van Houten to be cast in the lead role. She’s perfect to play both the younger and now older Berlin born Debra Milke. Of course the film producer and director may have other ideas. I’ve marveled at van Houten’s performance in PaulVerhoeven’s great film, Black Book and know she will rock in the part.

I don’t know who should play me but he better be a handsome chap with star power.

There are the late entry heroes of this story like Milke’s mother Renate Janka, the successful appeal lawyers and of course the tireless Berliner Webmaster and friend, Frankie Aue. The serious European campaign to free Milke is still unknown to most of the American public. The villains are plentiful here too.

This is a story that must be told. There should never be in any civilized society anyone put through the kind of Hell Debra Milke endured. It’s a story that will make even a staunch political conservative like myself learn to hate allowing their government the power to kill its own citizens.

Film producers need to move quickly on this before the publicity gets into overdrive. Carice van Houten is represented by the lovely Tracy Brennan over at at CAA
