Why Opinions are Important

We’ve all heard the old saying:  “Opinions are like a**holes – Everybody’s got ‘em & they all stink.”  Well, I beg to differ.  If everyone kept their opinions to themselves, a lot of neat, important, and often controversial information would not spread.  It often has the negative affect of altering government, but I don’t think that people’s opinions should affect the government.  Even though opinions would still alter our lives, communities, & the market.

Far more often than I would like, I get accused of being for some kind of legislation just because the legislation might line up with my distaste or dislike of something.  At first, I would look at those accusations like a dog that just got shown a card trick.  Then I realized that far too often, people have used their opinion to alter the law.  So often that having an opinion has become synonymous w/ “how you want to force the world into being.”  Which is rather hilarious to me, because it makes no sense.  What else is funny about it is that I often get viewed as a statist because of my opinion… even though I didn’t once mention that I’d like to use the government to alter the world into fitting my likes/dislikes accordingly.  That, to me, is hilarious & absurd.  Imagine believing one could alter the entire world to fit their own personal likes or dislikes.  Ridiculous, is it not?  So it’s weird to me that someone would think just because I like/dislike anything that I must also have a stance regarding what I would like to happen regarding legislation.

It seems to me that Liberals are the very people who’ve gotten everyone used to this.  Because very often, that is exactly what liberals want to do:  legislate the world to fit how they think it’d be best.  As if changing other people’s lives will make their own life a happier one.  (insert thought about how liberals must be dead inside or something)

As an Anarchist, I in no way want, nor do I believe that government can solve anything.  Let alone anyone’s likes or dislikes.

So what does all this have to do with opinions then?  I love opinions.  I love hearing explanations as to how someone came to their opinion.  No I don’t agree with every opinion.  But how else are humans supposed to understand the people around them & how they feel unless we hear each other out.  Sure, some opinions may alter my views, others do not.  So what does this have to do with anything?

It has to do with how we co-exist & how we progress as intelligent caring human beings.  People get mad at others’ opinions.  Why?  We’re all allowed to have an opinion.  It is only wrong if anyone tries to use their opinion to alter how you live with force.  Otherwise, spread your opinion around!  Most importantly, it is (in my opinion) what would make a great free-market.

“But Anarchy is not Free-Market!”  I’ve heard that argument & it usually comes from Anarcho-Socialists.  Which I used to retort saying “But Socialism is not Anarchy.”  The fact is, we’re both wrong & both right.  Because Anarchy is voluntary.  If I work hard & don’t want the fruits of my labor taken & spread evenly (as that would be force if I didn’t agree to it.  Force is immoral) then in Anarchy, I would be free to move to a community that does not choose Anarcho-Socialism as their community modus-operandi.  Realistically, since neither have been tried, there’s only one way to find out what way of living in Anarchy people would prefer.  If both could exist & trade amongst their respective communities, well then that’d be great!
