These days, there are tons of social media websites.  It seems like ever since Myspace started to fall & Facebook started to rise, all sorts of people attempted to gobble up some of those wandering users.  Now that Facebook is starting it’s decline, Zurker is trying to not only be the replacement, but trying to be the fair, just, & most free speech oriented social network on the web.

Hearing that Zurker was trying to take the free speech approach, purposely trying to seem like the moral opposite to Facebook that so many people desire, I immediately signed up.  It sounds all well & good when you get started, but right out of the gate they claim they’re a Free Democratic platform.  Well, that’s a contradiction, as Democracy isn’t free.  Sure, you can vote, but there will always be a side that gets what they want & a side that will not.  Unless it’s a case of unanimous decision (in which case it doesn’t bother me a bit, but usually people preaching Democracy don’t understand this anyway).  The only free part about it so far is that you’re free to not have an account if you don’t like it.  So, putting the use of the word Democracy behind me, I continued.

After that it states that certain types of behavior will result in closure of your account with no compensation.  Compensation we’ll get to later.  The only types of behavior listed are: hacking, referral fraud, & cracking.  So I’m not sure if those are to be taken as examples & there are other things too that aren’t listed, or if they’re the only things that will get your account terminated.

Next, it goes on to say that (in a nutshell) those who run Zurker can determine whether or not you’re using Zurker how they see fit.  Also, that Zurker can change at any time what is in their Terms of Service.  So… now it’s sounding just as bad as all the other social networks.

Accounts have quite a bit of restrictions on them as well.  For example:  only one person can use an account & you are not allowed to open multiple accounts.  For me, this was a major bummer.  Not because I wanted to open 40 accounts & mess with people, but because I have a band.  So far, other social networking sites allowed multiple users on one account & this was very helpful for Bands.  As every member of the band could check their page whenever wherever they want.  This is not allowed on Zurker.  If you want that kind of thing, you can be an entity but you can’t have an account.  Not sure what that means as the Terms of Service don’t go on to explain it.
