Syria in Last 24 Hours: Army, Lebanese Forces Retake Key District in Zabadani

The Syrian army and the Lebanese Hezbollah resistance forces completed their mop-up operations in a strategic region in Zabadani in Southern Syria.

Hay al-Sultani district of Zabadani was purged of terrorists, the Lebanese sources announced on Tuesday.

Tens of Takfiri terrorists were killed and dozens more were injured in heavy clashes with the Syrian army and the Lebanese forces

Zabadani is a strategic border town located 50 kilometers Northwest of the Syrian capital, Damascus.

The offensive is part of a wider operation launched by Syria and Hezbollah since May 4, which has reportedly driven militants out of more than 90 percent of the territory previously controlled by them in mountainous Qalamoun region.

The highly strategic area, which straddles the Lebanese-Syrian border, was previously used by the al-Nusra Front militants for transferring weapons and ammunition into Syria, where they have been involved in terrorist activities.

Hezbollah fighters and the Syrian national military are engaged in a wide-scale military campaign against the Takfiri groups operating across Syria. Cleansing operations included so far Arsal barrens, Qalamoun region and Zabadani town.

Also in the past 24 hours, the Syrian army, in a series of operations in the recent days, stormed the strongholds of al-Nusra Front and pushed the rebels back form their positions in the Southwestern province of Quneitra.

The sources said that the army men raided the positions of Nusra fighters in the villages of Um Batena and al-Hamidiyeh, and force them to retreat from the battlefront.

Elsewhere, the military sources in the Southern province of al-Sweida confirmed that the ISIL Takfiri terrorists tried to infiltrate into one of the positions of the army in the Northeastern sides of Sweida but it failed due to the troops’ strong defense.

The sources said that the army repelled an attempt by the ISIL terrorists to infiltrate from the direction of Tal Sa’ad into Tal al-Bouthaina, 35 km to the Northeast of the province.

All the members of the terrorist group were either killed or injured and their arms and ammunition were destroyed, according to the source.

Meantime, informed sources in the Southern Dara’a province announced that at least 13 fighters of the terrorist group of al-Nusra Front, including non-Syrians, were killed in the army’s offensives.

The sources said that 13 of al-Nusra Front terrorists, most of them no-Syrians, were killed in the Syrian army men’s strikes against one of their positions in the al-Mesefra town, 20 km to the Northeast of Dara’a.

Also, military sources in the Central Hama province confirmed that the Syrian army’s offensives against the ISIL terrorists’ positions and the airstrikes of the country’s air forces on the foreign-backed fighters’ strongholds resulted in the killing and wounding of several terrorists.

The Syrian army shelled a convoy of the ISIL vehicles in Kalib al-Thawr and Tabarit al-Diba to the East of Salamiya city in Hama province, which resulted in the explosion of all vehicle and their cargo.

Meantime, a number of the ISIL members were killed and injured in the abovementioned operations.

The Syrian warplanes airstrikes against hideouts of “al-Nusra Front” in Kafar Zita town, resulted in the killing of several terrorists, including Samer al-Rajab, the leader of a terrorist group in the province.

Elsewhere, the Syrian army killed scores of Takfiri militants, including a senior ISIL commander, in Hasaka province.

Abu Qattadeh al-Idlibi was killed along with 12 of his men in Syrian warplanes’ raid on his convoy in Hasaka-Shadadi road.

Meantime, the local sources disclosed that the rift has widened among the ISIL leadership ranks after death of Abu Qattadeh al-Idlibi.

The ISIL also executed nine of its members, including a senior commander, as a result of widening rift in the Takfiri terrorist group.

Elsewhere, the Syrian air raids claimed the lives of two senior ISIL leaders in the Eastern and Northeastern parts of Syria.

According to reports, top ISIL leader Amer al-Rafdan was killed in Syrian airstrikes in the Eastern province of Deir Ezzur.

Another Takfiri leader known as Abu Osama al-Iraqi was killed in the Northeastern Syrian province of Hasaka.

The development came as the Syrian army has launched a major offensive to push out the ISIL terrorists from the Arab country.

Iraqi Troops Target ISIL Positions near Ramadi

The Iraqi army troops, backed by the Popular Mobilization Units, targeted positions of the ISIL terrorists near the provincial capital of Ramadi.

“The Iraqi army and the Hashed al-Shaabi are pounding IS(IL) positions with rockets and mortar rounds East, West and South of Ramadi,” an Iraqi army officer said on Tuesday.

Another Iraqi officer said the joint forces are advancing on the city from three main axes.

Iraqi authorities announced the start of the major operation to “liberate Anbar” on Monday, with Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi saying that he will announce the news of liberation of the province soon.

“The heroes of our armed forces, police, al-Hashd al-Shaabi volunteers and tribal fighters will announce the news of victory of Anbar liberation soon, God willing,” the office of the Iraqi premier said in a statement.

Ahmed al-Asadi, the spokesman for al-Hashd al-Shaabi forces, said on Tuesday that the joint forces have liberated a number of areas including the village of Tahouna on the outskirts of the city of Fallujah in Anbar.

Iraqi security forces backed by al-Hashd al-Shaabi forces “managed to liberate the areas of Shihabi, al-bujasm, al-Halabsa and other areas in the North of Saqlawiyah,” Asadi said.

Iraqi forces managed to kill scores of militants belonging to the ISIL Takfiri group in the district of al-Baghdadi in Anbar on Monday.

The ISIL Takfiri terrorists currently control shrinking swathes of Syria and Iraq. They have threatened all communities, including Shiites, Sunnis, Kurds, Christians, Ezadi Kurds and others, as they continue their atrocities in Iraq.

Senior Iraqi officials have blamed Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and some Persian Gulf Arab states for the growing terrorism in their country.

The ISIL has links with Saudi intelligence and is believed to be indirectly supported by the Israeli regime.
