Latest Poll Shows Trump Beating Clinton In Key Swing State
August 19, 2015– A PPP poll released today is sure to put a smile on billionaire reality TV star Donald Trump’s face. Although within the poll’s margin of error, capturing 45 percent of the vote, Trump edged out Hillary Clinton who only captured 42 percent in the key swing state of North Carolina. This is the first poll showing Donald Trump beating Hillary Clinton in a key swing state necessary to win the White House.
In North Carolina, neurosurgeon Dr. Ben Carson leads Clinton 47 percent to 40 percent, while Rubio leads 45 percent to 41 percent. Carly Fiorina, Gov. John Kasich (Ohio), Sen. Ted Cruz (Texas), former Gov. Mike Huckabee (Ark.) and Gov. Scott Walker (Wis.) also lead Clinton by 3 percent or less head to head.
Last month, when PPP polled North Carolina and found Donald Trump leading the Republican field, it was the first poll by anyone anywhere to find Trump out ahead. He was at 16%. The latest survey of the state finds that Trump’s momentum has just continued to grow. He’s now at 24% to 14% for Ben Carson, 13% for Jeb Bush, 10% for Ted Cruz, 9% for Marco Rubio, and 6% each for Carly Fiorina, Mike Huckabee, and Scott Walker. Rounding out the field are Rand Paul at 3%, Chris Christie and Rick Santorum at 2%, John Kasich and Rick Perry at 1%, Jim Gilmore, Bobby Jindal, and George Pataki with less than 1%, and Lindsey Graham with literally no supporters.
The poll also studied a theoretical 3rd party run for Trump. Trump wins North Carolina independents with 38% (to 28% for Clinton and 24% for Bush), takes 38% of Republicans, and 14% of Democrats.
PPP, a polling firm that heavily favors Democrats, conducted the latest survey of 957 voters between Aug. 12-16. The poll has an overall margin of error of plus or minus 3.2 percent. You can view the entire poll HERE.
