My oh my, Iran threatens IAEA after signing deal with P5+1

Just a mere month after the signing of the ‘historic’ deal with Iran to curb its ‘peaceful’ nuclear program, reports indicate Iranian leaders prevented a top International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) official from disclosing to U.S. officials the nature of secret side deals with Iran by threatening harm to him. Hmm, that seems reassuring. The simple question now is how are the White House and the State Department going to explain this one to the public and the skeptical Congress.

IAEA chief Yukiya Amano remained silent about the nature of certain side deals during briefings with top U.S. officials because he feared such disclosures would lead to retaliation by Iran, according to the spokesman for Iran’s Atomic Energy Organization (AEOI). This explains why many members of Congress were angry after Amano briefed them about the recently inked nuclear accord.

Now, if we refrain from getting lost in the politics of Washington and focus our attention on Iran, we come to realize that Iran threatened Amano in a letter meant to ensure he did not reveal specific information about the nature of nuclear inspections going forward, according to Iranian AEOI spokesman Behrouz Kamalvandi. And we are only a month away from the deal, and some weeks ago we had that Parchin fiasco where heavy construction machinery were seen working at a very sensitive and suspicious nuclear site the IAEA has been demanding to visit and take samples for years.

These two turn of events show that Iran is taking full advantage of the appeasement policy unfortunately adopted by the West (apparently still not learning Chamberlain’s lesson with Hitler and Nazi Germany) and barking at the West and now literally threatening to “harm” a senior UN official. Is this international politics, or a fight down the corner at the bar?

Needless to say that this disclosure has only boosted suspicions among some that the Iranian regime are will go as far as intimidate the top nuclear watchdog and undermine the verification regime that US President Barack Obama and administration officials speak so highly and described as a key component of the nuclear accord. This only raises major skepticism about the other aspects of the 159-page document signed in Vienna after more than two weeks of constant talks.

“In a letter to Yukiya Amano, we underlined that if the secrets of the agreement (roadmap between Iran and the IAEA) are revealed, we will lose our trust in the Agency; and despite the US Congress’s pressures, he didn’t give any information to them,” Kamalvandi was quoted as saying Monday during a meeting with Iranian lawmakers, according to Tehran’s state-controlled Fars News Agency.

“Had he done so, he himself would have been harmed,” the official added.

Rest assured that if the Iranian regime is not stopped here and if the West, particularly the Obama administration doesn’t lash back at Iran, the mullahs will smell weakness and they will dare to explore newer weaknesses.

President Obama says it is this deal or war. That is simply not true and Senators Chuck Schumer and Robert Menendez, leading figures from the Democratic Party, have both bravely rose against this shameful accord. If preventing the Iranian regime from obtaining nuclear weapons and establishing everlasting peace and security in the Middle East and beyond is the objective, there are many options better than this deal.

The Iranian people have a power organized democratic opposition movement led by Mrs. Maryam Rajavi, President-elect of the Paris-based National Council of Resistance of Iran. Her 10-point plan for the free Iran of tomorrow – hailed by many American and European politicians – calls for a nuclear free Iran living in peace and tranquility with its neighbors. It is high time the West put aside the appeasement policy and listen to the legitimate representatives of the Iranian people.
