Hezbollah Holds Massive Funeral for Kuntar in Dahieh: ’Israel’ to Pay Price

Hezbollah held on Monday a massive funeral for the Dean of the Liberated detainees in Israeli prisons martyr Samir Kuntar who embraced martyrdom in the Israeli air raid on Syria’s city of Jaramana, in the southern suburb of Beirut.

The head of Hezbollah Executive Council, Sayyed Hashem Safieddine, led the funeral prayers shared by a number of the party’s commanders and MPs at Hawraa Zainab Paradise in the area of Ghobiery where martyr Kuntar was laid to rest.

Sayyed Safieddine delivered a speech in which his eminence asserted that the Israeli enemy will pay the price of its crime, hailing the sublime traits that characterized martyr Samir Kuntar throughout his life in its various domains.

Israeli warplanes raided a residential building in the Syrian city of Jaramana late Saturday, killing martyr Kuntar.

Al-Manar sources said the Israeli warplanes struck the building with four long-range missiles, causing complete destruction of the building and partial damage to the surrounding structures.

Martyr Kuntar was detained by occupation forces in 1979, at the age of 16, for his involvement in a heroic operation against Zionists. He was released along with four other Lebanese prisoners in a 2008 swap deal with Hezbollah in exchange for the bodies of two Israeli soldiers killed during the 2006 war.

Most Syrian Rebels Sympathise with Isis, Says Thinktank

December 21, 2015 “Information Clearing House” – “The Guardian” – More than half of the rebel fighters in Syria who are opposing President Bashar al-Assad are sympathetic to Islamic State views, a leading thinktank has claimed.

The Centre on Religion and Geopolitics said efforts to wipe out Isis in Syria and Iraq would not end the global threat from jihadi groups because extremist views were common among Syrian fighters of all stripes.

At least 15 militias, numbering 65,000 fighters, could fill any vacuum resulting from a defeat of Isis in Syria and Iraq by a coalition led by the US, a report by the thinktank found.

About 60% of fighters in rebel factions in Syria identified with a religious and political ideology similar to that of the terror group, it added.

The thinktank, run by the Tony Blair Faith Foundation, said: “The west risks making a strategic failure by focusing only on IS. Defeating it militarily will not end global jihadism. We cannot bomb an ideology, but our war is ideological.”

The report comes after the United Nations agreed a resolution endorsing the start of “urgent” formal negotiations between Assad’s regime and moderate opposition groups early next month.

But the centre warned the radical groups, including al-Qaida affiliate al-Nusra Front and Ahrar al-Sham, could benefit if they went “unchallenged”.

It added: “If Isis is defeated, there are at least 65,000 fighters belonging to other Salafi-jihadi groups ready to take its place.

“The greatest danger to the international community are the groups that share the ideology of Isis, but are being ignored in the battle to defeat the group.

“While military efforts against Isis are necessary, policy makers must recognise that its defeat will not end the threat of Salafi-jihadism unless it is accompanied by an intellectual and theological defeat of the pernicious ideology that drives it.”

Long Overdue: Bringing Peace to Syria

US President Barack Obama is wasting his time
calling again for the removal of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad “in
order for the country to have peace and stability.”

Iran,
Russia, and most importantly, the people of Syria and the United
Nations Security Council say that’s not going to happen. The Council has
just adopted a resolution to endorse an international bid to end the
crisis in Syria. The long-overdue resolution is very similar to what
Iran and Russia have been saying all this time. It calls for peace
talks and a nationwide ceasefire in the war-torn country. It also calls
for the establishment of a “credible, inclusive and non-sectarian”
government and UN-supervised “free and fair elections”.

As per the resolution, the transition process will be Syrian-led and
Syrian-owned, during which the Syrian people will decide the future of
their country. What’s more, the truce “will not apply to offensive or
defensive actions” against terrorist groups operating in the country.
Few important points are worth mentioning in this respect:

* The resolution is a victory for the men and women of Syria. It puts
the future of Syria in their hands, led, shaped and decided by them.
Which means after nearly five years of bloodshed and terrorism, the
regime changers – the War Party and its minions – failed to impose their
will on the men and women of Syria.

* The resolution does not call for removal of Bashar al-Assad, who is
the elected president of Syria. Which means, it is also a victory for
the elected government of Syria. The UN endorses the idea that it will
be the people of Syria who will decide the future of their leader, and
not regime changers.

* The resolution welcomes participation of Iran in the upcoming peace
talks. It suggests all previous talks failed because Iran was not there.
The country is Syria’s key ally and in its absence there will be no
political approach to ending the conflict. The resolution acknowledges
all that and more.

* The refugee crisis in Fortress Europe refuses to go away. Overwhelmed
by the Syria blowback – as warned by Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah
Seyed Ali Khamenei more than four years ago – European governments are
desperate to find a way out. They are confident that with Iran on board
their refugee crisis will also go away.

* The Grand Coalition of Russia, Iran, Syria, and Lebanon’s Hezbollah is
winning the Real War on Terror. The “Assad must go” gang endorsed the
UN resolution as they have no choice. They are desperate to have a place
in post-war Syria which is wishful thinking. Those who destroyed Syria
will have no place in its future reconstruction efforts.

It is by now clear that there will be no solution to the crisis in the
absence of President Assad. The settlement of the political situation
requires dialog with the Syrian president who is in place and is elected
by the Syrian people, and who is at the forefront of the Real War on
Terror. It is not for the outside powers to decide who must lead
post-war Syria; it is for the men and women of Syria to decide – as the
UN resolution requires.
