Saudi forces attack buildings and cars in Awamiyah
Saudi security forces have opened indiscriminate fire on vehicles and buildings in a Shia-populated town in the country’s east, where a contingent of armored vehicles arrived on Tuesday to curb any possible unrest.
The kingdom is on the edge over fears of possible protests following its execution of prominent cleric Nimr al-Nimr.
According to sources, armored vehicles stormed al-Awamiyah and the security forces started to fire at about two dozen vehicles in the city, resulting in damage to some residential buildings and shops.
The towns, as well as the Qatif district, both in the restive Shia-dominated Eastern Province have been the site of peaceful demonstrations since February 2011.
Demonstrators have been voicing protest at Riyadh’s suppressive policies against its Shia minority.

Commander: Tens of Saudi Soldiers Killed in Cross-Border Clashes with Yemen
http://en.farsnews.com/newstext.aspx?nn=13941016001363
The Yemeni army and popular forces killed 80 Saudi soldiers troops in heavy clashes as the latter were trying to open their way from Saudi Arabia’s Southern Jizan province into Yemen through Tawwal border crossing.
“At least 82 Saudi-led forces were killed as they were attempting to open their way into Yemen’s border regions through Tawwal crossing which links Jizan province in the Southern part of the kingdom to Northern Yemen,” Senior Ansarullah Commander Ali al-Houthi told FNA on Wednesday.
He noted that five armored vehicles of the Saudi forces were also destroyed during the clashes with the Yemeni forces.
The Yemeni forces thwarted a similar attack by the Saudi-led forces at Tawwal border crossing.
The Yemeni troops reported tens of casualties on the part of the Saudis following heavy clashes at the border crossing.
In a relevant development on Monday, a large number of Saudi soldiers were killed in a surprise attack of the Yemeni army and popular forces on a strategic military base in the Southern part of the kingdom.
The Saudi military base in Alhajleh region of Najran province came under the Yemeni forces’ attack.
Tens of Saudi military men were killed and dozens more injured during the attack.
The latest reports said that the Saudi military base is still under the control of the Yemeni forces.

Mohammed
Tuaiman becomes the third member of his family to be killed by what he
called ‘death machines’ in the sky months after Guardian interview
A 13-year-old boy killed in Yemen
last month by a CIA drone strike had told the Guardian just months
earlier that he lived in constant fear of the “death machines” in the
sky that had already killed his father and brother.
“I see them every day and we are scared of them,” said Mohammed
Tuaiman, speaking from al-Zur village in Marib province, where he died
two weeks ago.
“A lot of the kids in this area wake up from sleeping because of
nightmares from them and some now have mental problems. They turned our
area into hell and continuous horror, day and night, we even dream of
them in our sleep.”
Much of Mohammed’s life was spent living in fear of drone strikes. In
2011 an unmanned combat drone killed his father and teenage brother as
they were out herding the family’s camels.
The drone that would kill Mohammed struck on 26 January in Hareeb,
about an hour from his home. The drone hit the car carrying the
teenager, his brother-in-law Abdullah Khalid al-Zindani and a third man.
“I saw all the bodies completely burned, like charcoal,” Mohammed’s
older brother Maqded said. “When we arrived we couldn’t do anything. We
couldn’t move the bodies so we just buried them there, near the car.”
Several anonymous US government officials told Reuters that the
strike had been carried out by the CIA and had killed “three men
believed to be al-Qaida militants”. Al-Qaida in the Arabian Peninsula (AQAP) claimed responsibility for the Charlie Hebdo attack in Paris last month.
Yemen: A US-Orchestrated Holocaust
by Stephen Lendman
Millions of lives are at risk from violence, starvation, lack of vital medical care, and overall deprivation.
A new UN Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (UNHCR) report downplayed the ongoing catastrophe, shamelessly undercounting civilian casualties since conflict began last March.
It’s likely in the tens of thousands from Saudi terror-bombing heavily populated areas and absence of vital essentials to life.
Claiming it’s only 2,800, another 5,200 wounded mocks the unbearable suffering of millions of Yemenis, victims of US imperialism.
The world community remains largely indifferent, ignoring an entire population at risk. Millions may perish before conflict ends. Nothing is being done to prevent it.
Fighting shows no signs of abating. Obama’s orchestrated war complicit with Riyadh is another high crime on his rap sheet, major media scoundrels giving it short shrift.
Famine stalks Yemen, around 20 million at risk, children, the ill and elderly most vulnerable. War without mercy continues.
Secure sources of food, potable water, fuel, electricity and medical care are absent or in too short supply in most of the country – impossible conditions to survive for many.
Malnutrition is rampant, near-starvation commonplace. So are preventable diseases claiming unknown numbers of lives for lack of treatment. Body counts exclude nonviolent deaths.
A phantom mid-December ceasefire ended in the new year. Saudis escalated terror-bombing US selected targets, including densely populated residential areas, hospitals, refugee camps, vital infrastructure and other non-military sites.
A blockade remains in force, preventing vital to life essentials from getting to people in need in amounts enough to matter.
Washington and Riyadh want war, not peace. Ceasefire was more illusion than reality – Houthis irresponsibly blamed for imperial crimes. Yemenis continue suffering horrifically.
Their country is being systematically ravaged and destroyed – increasingly looking like Afghanistan, Iraq, Libya and Syria.
US imperialism bears full responsibility, destroying life on earth one country at a time, making things unbearable for survivors.
Last September, a largely Saudi-drafted (US/UK supported) UN Human Rights Council resolution on Yemen excluded an independent international war crimes investigation, whitewashing imperial high crimes.
It authorized only UN provided technical assistance to a Yemeni inquiry headed by illegitimate president Abd Rabbuh Mansur Hadi – US-installed in a 2012 election with no opposing candidates.
Yemen remains a black hole of endless violence and instability, no relief in sight for its suffering millions.
