Rafael Cruz Potential Suspect in Zodiac Killings

There is a fantastic Internet meme questioning if Ted Cruz is the zodiac killer but has anyone thought to ask if Rafael Cruz is the zodiac killer? I did, and what I found may surprise you.

for those of you who don’t know, the Zodiac was a serial killer who murdered people between December 1968 and October 1969. Four men and three women between the ages of 16 and 29 were targeted. The killer originated the name “Zodiac” in a series of taunting letters sent to the local press. These letters included four cryptograms otherwise known as ciphers. Of the four cryptograms, only one has been definitively solved. Suspects have been named by law enforcement and amateur investigators, but no conclusive evidence has surfaced. In April 2004, the San Francisco Police Department marked the case “inactive”, but then re-opened the case prior to March 2007. The case remains open today but the killer’s identity still remains a mystery.

Now first let’s dispel this ridiculous idea that Ted Cruz is the Zodiac Killer. How did this Internet meme even get started in the first place and why is it so popular? The joke originated back in 2013 when the owner of the Twitter account @RedPillAmerica pushed out a tweet during Ted Cruz’s speech at the Conservative Political Action Conference saying the subject of his address was going to be a confession of responsibility for the Zodiac Killer’s crimes. The actual tweet reads quote “CPAC Alert Ted Cruz is speaking. His speech is titled “This is the Zodiac Killer speaking”.

The tweet didn’t even go viral with just 153 retweets and 200 likes. The second time the correlation between Ted Cruz and the Zodiac Killer was made was more than a year and half later when @Flash2844 tweeted quote “Ted Cruz’s chilling deathbed confession: I am the zodiac killer” #TedCruzistheZodiacKiller. This tweet got even less of a response from the Twitter community with only 19 retweets and 26 likes.

In fact, the whole idea of Ted Cruz being the Zodiac Killer didn’t even go viral until Public Policy Polling, a research company that prides itself on highly accurate polls across the country asked Floridians in February of 2016 if they believed Ted Cruz was the Zodiac Killer and the results came back showing 28% of Florida voters weren’t sure and 10% believed he was.

But let’s put this insanity to rest because Ted Cruz according to his official birth certificate, was born in 1970. The Zodiac Killer’s first confirmed murder occurred in 1968. So Ted Cruz is not the Zodiac Killer.

His father however. Well that’s a different story. See here’s the thing. Internet memes just like lies are sometimes based in the truth. But it’s a truth that we can’t see until the vail is pulled off our eyes. Sure over the years many people have been speculated to have been the Zodiac Killer but none so completely outlandish as Ted Cruz. But what if the universe or more to the Cruz’s liking, divine intervention helped create this meme so that we as a society could figure out who the Zodiac Killer truly was.

Let’s start by creating a timeline that incompasses both Rafael Cruz’s life with the Zodiac Killer murders. 1957, Rafael arrives from Cuba and starts school at the University of Texas in Austin. 1959, he marries his first wife. 1961 Rafael Cruz graduates from the University of Texas and his wife has their first child. He is granted political asylum in the United States following the expiration of his student visa and his second child is born in 1962. The couple soon divorced thereafter.

And here is the first odd part of the timeline. Between 1962 and 1968 there is no indication of what Rafael Cruz did for a living or where he was at that time. In fact, it isn’t until 1969 that it’s noted he moves to New Orleans and marries his second wife who later gives birth to Ted Cruz in Canada.

Now the first official killing by the Zodiac takes place on December 10th 1968 but even before that; amateur and expert investigators have wondered if killings in 1963 and 1966 weren’t in fact tied to the Zodiac as well.

Going back to the timeline, there was a Zodiac murder in 1969 when Rafael Cruz is supposed to have been living in New Orleans. But here’s what doesn’t really add up. He met his wife that year in 1969 as they were both working for the same company. They got married and moved up to Alberta Canada where she gave birth to Ted Cruz on December 22nd 1970. But then Rafael came back to Texas around 1975 left the Roman Catholic Church and became an Evangelical Christian. But during the four years he was living in Canada he became a Canadian citizen. Why does someone who has an American citizenship so quickly obtain a Canadian citizenship but then turns around and moves back to America?

One reason I can think of is if that person was frequently traveling cross-border but didn’t want to deal with the hassle of being a foreigner coming into either countries. Of course the other more malicious reason would be if that person knew there was something they were doing that could lead to the need to fight extradition.

The Zodiac claims to have killed 37 people and let’s say that’s true because exaggerating on the number of people you’ve killed is kind of like exaggerating on the number of people you’ve had sex with. You don’t jump from five sex partners to thirty and 37 sounds like a pretty specific number. Why not round up to 40. So was the Zodiac Killer someone who travelled for work and if that’s the case are there unsolved murders littered throughout the nation that haven’t been tied to him yet. Better yet, are there any unsolved cases on the Canadian side?

Next, have the police tried deciphering the coded messages from Latin or Spanish?

And finally, and this is what really gives me goosebumps. The murders always took place either during the summer months or pre-christmas holiday. It’s almost as if someone was on winter break or summer vacation.

Where was Rafael Cruz during these times? Was he traveling for work? When he was in Austin did he ever go to California? And more importantly what happened between the years 1962 and 1968?
