One of the hallmarks of the Obama administration is an epic level of hypocrisy and duplicity. Obama and his stooges routinely make very public pronouncements and then proceed to do just the opposite. Perhaps nowhere is this more evident that in the way Obama has dealt with the various challenges presented by the Islamic world. We’ve seen it time and again as jihadis shoot up military bases, holiday parties, recruiting stations, homosexual night clubs, etc. and Obama pigheadedly and resolutely refuses to acknowledge that any problem exists bigger than gun control.
The same is true of the lip service he gives to gender equality. He talks a good game and demagogues the living hell out of private businesses but when it comes down to it women in the White House are paid significantly less than men. The most shameful betrayal of women and kowtow to political correctness is on the issue of female genital mutilation.
Female genital mutilation, or FGM, is a bizarre ritual mutilation of the genitalia of young women in an effort to enforce chastity. (More information on the subject than you will want to know from the World Health Organization.) It is not an Islamic ritual, per se, but the great majority of the practice is carried out in Islamic societies in Africa. Obama, himself, has spoken out against the procedure, presumably out of fear that he could be a victim himself.
When she was a girl, Sadiya Aliye’s genitals were cut, as she was told tradition dictated. So when she became a mother to four daughters, she put all of them through the same agonising ritual.
But attitudes, and law enforcement, are changing in Ethiopia. Aliye was arrested all four times, spent two months in jail and paid $50 fines. “I was very angry,” she recalls. “They beat me.” Her husband, the midwife and those who held down the girls were also punished.
Efforts to eradicate female genital mutilation (FGM) received a further boost last weekend when Barack Obama told an audience in Kenya: “There’s no excuse for sexual assault or domestic violence, there’s no reason that young girls should suffer genital mutilation, there’s no place in a civilised society for the early or forced marriage of children. These traditions may go back centuries; they have no place in the 21st century.”
He reiterated the message in Addis Ababa to an effusive audience. But 235km away in the remote and arid Afar region of north-eastern Ethiopia, where a decade ago nine in 10 girls suffered FGM, Aliye was only vaguely aware of the US president’s visit. In her modest mud brick home in the dusty village of Awash, where horses and carts are still commonplace, she lacked TV or radio to hear his plea.
Other than hectoring the occupants of various Third World sh**holes on how they really ought to behave, what, exactly has the Obama administration has done to combat this problem that is increasing in the United States as more and more immigrants are admitted from the predominantly Islamic cultures that practice this particular barbarism?
How prevalent is this procedure?
No one knows for sure, more on that in a moment. In March of this year, CDC researchers estimated that more than a half-million women or girls living in the United States either have FGM or are at a high risk of being forced to have it. This report is found on the site of the US Citizenship and Immigration Services (pdf).
Objectives. In 1996, the U.S. Congress passed legislation making female genital mutilation/cutting (FGM/C) illegal in the United States. CDC published the first estimates of the number of women and girls at risk for FGM/C in 1997. Since 2012, various constituencies have again raised concerns about the practice in the United States. We updated an earlier estimate of the number of women and girls in the United States who were at risk for FGM/C or its
Methods. We estimated the number of women and girls who were at risk for undergoing FGM/C or its consequences in 2012 by applying country-specific prevalence of FGM/C to the estimated number of women and girls living in the United States who were born in that country or who lived with a parent born in that country.
Results. Approximately 513,000 women and girls in the United States were at risk for FGM/C or its consequences in 2012, which was more than three times higher than the earlier estimate, based on 1990 data. The increase in the number of women and girls younger than 18 years of age at risk for FGM/C
was more than four times that of previous estimates.
But estimates are just that, estimates. One might scoff at the 513,000 number as being incredible in the sense that it lacks credibility. So let’s focus on a series of specific data points. First, it is a federal crime and, in most places a state crime, to either perform FGM or to send your daughter to a FGM-friendly country for the mutilation. Second, health care practitioners would have an affirmative duty to report FGM as they would any other evidence of child abuse. Then let’s look at federal prosecutions. Surely if as many as a half-million federal felonies were committed each year, leaving in its wake a distinct corpus of evidence, because, let’s face it, no one is going to mistake FGM for labiaplasty, then there have to be a sh**load of convictions or guilty pleas.
How many, would that be, you ask. None. Nada. Zero. Not a single one.
How many have been reported? We don’t know. No one is talking.
From this you can draw two alternative conclusions.
First, and I’m open to this, the CDC researchers are freakin morons. Since this reporting began they have estimated well north of a million young women and girls were at risk and yet not a single one actually had the procedure inflicted. Second, alternatively, the administration simply has no interest in pursuing these crimes. To me the latter rings more true. This administration is lawless. It picks and chooses which laws it will enforce and in only enforces those laws that push its political agenda forward. Prosecuting people from a handful of nations where the practice is not only common but prevalent among the Islamic communities from those nations would work against the administrations agenda of taking in large numbers of unvetted immigrants.
With this level of potential threat it is hard to believe that a federal taskforce is not targeting FGM. Immigration should be running Elian Gonzalez style child-snatches to protect vulnerable girls. Stings should be snaring parent sending their girls back to dear old Egypt for a “nip and tuck.” Instead, we have crickets. More family pets have been shot dead by federal agents under Obama than FGM practitioners arrested.
