MSN twisting data and numbers to promote gun control

% of readers think this story is Fact. Add your two cents.

An MSN article posted today claims the US could learn from four countries that have all but eliminated gun deaths. Obviously the article is intended as a good-ban fueling station, but I was amused that the idiot who wrote the article made no attempt (as is the usual case with the left) to even bother researching their data before making outrageous claims.

MSN case for gun control story

JAPAN:

Let’s use this one just as a starting point. “If we eliminate guns, mass killings won’t be possible!” screeches the gun-hating left. Well surprise, surprise…let’s take a look at this particular crime from 2016…

AUSTRALIA:

Oh as gun crimes fall…knife crimes go up? NOOOOOO…we’ve got to ban knives and all sharp objects!

Knife crime going up in Australia as gun crime plummets

NORWAY:

Let’s keep in mind, the population of Norway = 5.2 million people   /  United States = 323 Million people

So there are 64x as many people in the US as in norway and yet, check out their crime stats compared to the United States yet in rapes, the US only exceeds Norway by 42%, and you are only 7x more likely to be murdered in the US than Norway and our drug use is only about 43% higher. Now for the less math-savy of you out there reading this, I’ll break it down simply. If the US is 64x larger,  just to be equivalent to Norway, all of our crime rates should also be 64x larger. In other words, 100 murders in Norway would be equal to 6400 murders in the US. Our murder rate per capita would be identical. Meaning on the base numbers it should look like 100 vs 6400 but this is obviously not the case as the actual numbers show above and on the link included. The numbers are not 64x larger. It’s barely 40% higher on most. So in all honesty the crime rates there are actually worse per capita than here. They conflate the numbers in order to make them look worse than what they actually are.

Crime stats…

UNITED KINGDOM:

The final straw they toss at our camel’s back is Great Britain. Do I even need to link to the knife attacks and bombs and car-killings there folks? Just because we take guns out of the equation doesn’t mean murder and violence ceases to exist.

Crime on rise in UK  (rapes and robberies exploding)

The US murder rate is 15,696 versus 594 in the UK. Shocking? Wait, before assuming that number is horrific, you have to compare the population rate. Remember the US has 323 million people. Great Britain only has 65 million people meaning about 5x more people here than there. So let’s bounce numbers (594 x 5 = 2970 and 15,696 / 2970= 5.2). So despite no guns in the UK, our murder rate is only 5x higher.  Keep in mind cities like Chicago with their gun bans still account for over 600 this year alone (so far)(see link). Wait, am I saying that one of the only major cities in the United States that bans guns is still responsible for literally 3% of all murders in our entire country? Yes I am. Here’s a few more, PHILADELPHIA = 280+, Memphis = 135+, Washington D.C. = 162, Milwaukee = 145, New Orleans = 164+, Detroit = 300+, Baltimore = 350+, St. Louis = 188+, New York City = est.300+,  Chicago = 600+, and Los Angeles = 111+. Do the math real quick and you’ll find that just 11 cities in our country account for literally over 2,735 murders annually, meaning 17% of all murders in this country come out of 11 single large cities.

Crime Rates by City

The problem isn’t guns. The guns are most predominant in the rural areas (remember all us hillbillies?). So the murder rate isn’t directly related to guns – it’s related to people who use them. Taking the guns away will not stop nor even lower the murder rates in this nation – it will only increase crime in general as it has in Australia and Norway and the UK. This whole argument, if looked at on the whole, falls back on itself. The research shows clearly that crime increases even if murder rates drop somewhat. I would rather my chances getting shot than raped or robbed. I like the odds better.
