Saudi Commentators Advocate a Military Operation against Hizbullah
Lebanese Paper: S. Arabia after Ousting Michel Aoun
A leading Lebanese daily revealed that Saudi Arabia is hatching plots to dismiss President Michel Aoun from his post, adding that certain western states are also mulling the issue.
The Arabic-language al-Akhbar newspaper reported that Saudi Arabia is insanely plotting to fight against the resistance front and expand its control over Lebanon.
The paper quoted sources in Riyadh as saying that Lebanese Prime Minister Saad al-Hariri will remain like a captive even after leaving Saudi Arabia so that he will focus all its power on one goal, attacking Hezbollah.
Also, Saudi Arabia has decided to start a new phase to fight against its opponents in Lebanon, including Aoun.
The country has also consulted with the Americans and is attempting, in collaboration with its affiliated groups in Lebanon, to cut Hezbollah’s hand from the Lebanese government and provoke people, specially the Christians, against the resistance group.
Meantime, certain US and even European circles have been speaking about ousting Aoun and finding a replacement for him, according to al-Akhbar.
After Hariri’s resignation in Riyadh earlier this month, Aoun said that the Lebanese premier has been “kidnapped” and must have immunity.
Meanwhile, in a statement released by Aoun’s office, the Lebanese president expressed concern over Hariri’s situation and said the premier was living in a “dubious” situation in Saudi Arabia. He added that anything Hariri has said or may say “does not reflect reality” due to the mystery of his situation.
Hariri announced his resignation on November 4, citing several reasons, including the security situation in Lebanon, for his sudden decision. He also said that he realized a plot being hatched against his life.
Hariri also accused Iran and the Lebanese resistance movement, Hezbollah, of meddling in the Arab countries’ affairs; an allegation the two have rejected.
The Lebanese prime minister announced his resignation following visits to Saudi Arabia. The resignation also came less than a month after he announced plans to join a coalition government with Hezbollah
