State Department Schizophrenia. State Partially Defunds a Terror-Supporting Organization While Honoring and Protecting It

In an organization filled with inept, inefficient and criminal agencies, the United Nations Relief Works Agency for Palestinian Refugees (UNRWA)
stands heads and shoulders above all others for the pure evil it perpetrates. Where UN peacekeepers may deal in systematic rape and sex trafficking, their impact is limited. The UNRWA, on the other hand, is dedicated to spreading Antisemitism and terrorism across generations. It has created a perpetual need for itself by ensuring the problems it was created to solve do not and cannot go away, but rather the problems metastasize creating yet more need for UNRWA’s loving touch.

This past week, UNRWA had a close brush with death. The United States contributes a majority of the money the organization receives

and a decision was made to not contribute to UNRWA unless the Palestinians returned to negotiations. The administration, at the request of Mattis, Tillerson and McMaster, backed off a bit and held back about $110 million. I don’t disagree with this, turning off the spigot immediately, no matter how good it felt, would not give UNRWA a chance to reform. They’d simply become worse.

Now comes the institutional schizophrenia on the part of the State Department. Apparently there is a report that shows that the number of Palestinians receiving the kind ministrations of UNRWA is actually quite small:

Multiple sources with knowledge of the situation told the Washington Free Beacon that the State Department first classified the report under the Obama administration and still refuses to provide U.S. officials with the information despite laws mandating its release.

The report was described to the Free Beacon as a potential tipping point in the debate over UNRWA and its mission, which has come under increased criticism in Congress for what many claim is the agency’s anti-Israel bias and routine promotion of pro-terrorism doctrines.

Some State Department officials have acknowledged in private meetings that there is no reason the report should remain classified, according to sources who said the over classification is part of an effort to suppress this information from Congress and the public.

“I was informed that there is no justification for classifying the report. Rather, it is the officials at State Department who do not want this information out as it could and would lead to a call to reform UNRWA,” said one source briefed on the matter.

While UNRWA provides support to some 5.3 million Palestinians they claim are refugees, the actual number could be closer to 20,000. This disclosure could fundamentally shift the narrative with UNRWA and lead the United States to consider cutting even more of its funding to the agency.

Currently, any U.S. official seeking to read the little-known report’s findings must have top-secret security clearance and access to a secure facility containing the documents.

I have my doubts about the 20K number but I have no doubt that the reach of UNRWA is much smaller than it claims and I would bet that the UNRWA includes in its numbers Palestinians they know have decamped from life in other areas of the world. State keeping it secret is perfectly in line with the long-standing State Department bias against Israel and in favor of the Palestinians.

This goes to the second point. If we have to coddle these cretins for geopolitical reasons, why in the name of Heaven do we want to praise them:

This is insane. The UNRWA is involved in naming schools after suicide bombers. They hire Hamas functionaries to teach. They allow the schools to be used to store arms and as tunnel portals and don’t notify anyone. They teach the worst sort of Antisemitic trash in the schools they run. They are part of the extremist problem, they are not part of the solution.

Trump and Nikki Haley have the right vision here. We need to choke off the funding to this organization until it reforms. If it doesn’t reform, we need to work to kill it. What we don’t need is a State Department that doesn’t seem to know whose side they are on.
