Major Move: Australia Becomes Next Country to Recognize Jerusalem as Capital of Israel

Left-wingers, run for the hills!

On Saturday, the Australian government will become one of the few nations to declare West Jerusalem the capital of Israel.

Though, the country will also announce a future Palestinian state with its capital in East Jerusalem, to be established after (or if ever?) a peace settlement is reached. Upon that occurrence, Australia will move its embassy from Tel Aviv.

Prime Minister Scott Morrison noted the new foreign policy during a speech Saturday to the Sydney Institute on Saturday.

Bill Shorten, party leader in opposition to Morrison, lamented the “humiliating backdown” of the decision, accusing Morrison of putting “his political interest ahead of our national interest.”

Well — I guess political play goes the same way everywhere.

Despite a delay on the embassy’s relocation, Australia will install an office of defense and trade in Jerusalem immediately and begin the search for an embassy locale.

Morrison announced the move in grand style:

“The Australian government has decided that Australia now recognizes West Jerusalem – as the seat of the Knesset (Israel’s parliament) and many of the institutions of government – is the capital of Israel. And we look forward to moving our embassy to West Jerusalem when practical, in support of, and after, final-status determination.”

If you’ll recall, when Trump declared Jerusalem the capital of Israel last December, the Left lost their cotton-picking minds (here, here, here, here, and here). The embassy was moved in May (here), followed by protests in Gaza — resulting in 58 Palestinian deaths — and condemnation around the world.

But Donald Trump is his own man, and he can take it.

Can Prime Minister Morrison? On Saturday, the president of the Australian Palestine Advocacy Network, Bishop George Browning, severely condemned Morrison’s proclamation as “a tortuous attempt to salvage himself from a pre-emptive thought bubble prior to the Wentworth byelection.”

Wentworth is an area where, as per the 2016 Census, 12.5% of the population is Jewish.
