Armed Turkish military vehicles enter Syria to launch joint US ‘safe zone’ patrols

Damascus condemns joint US-Turkish patrols in border strip in Northeast Syria and says it is “flagrant violation” of country’s sovereignty, according to an official statement.

Damascus believes that “this step is an aggression and is aimed at prolonging the crisis in Syria”, the Syrian foreign ministry announced in a statement on Sunday, RIA Novosti reported.

The Turkish defence ministry announced on Sunday that the Turkish and US armed forces have started their joint patrols in a safe zone in Northeastern Syria.

“As a part of efforts to create a safe zone in the North of Syria to the East of the Euphrates, the Turkish and US military have started joint ground patrols using transport vehicles and drones to the South of Akcakale, on the Syrian side,” the defence ministry said.

The defence ministry added that six Turkish armored vehicles also participated in patrols.

Earlier, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan confirmed his intention to establish a ‘safe zone’ in Northeast Syria together with the United States by the end of September.

Erdogan stated last week that his country would not stand any delays in creating a “safe zone” in Syria and would establish it alone if talks with the US fail to produce results.

In August, Ankara and Washington agreed to create a safe zone to the East of the Euphrates River that would serve as a buffer zone between the Turkish border and Syrian areas controlled by US-backed Kurdish militias, which Turkey considers to be terrorists.

The Syrian government has opposed the US-Turkish agreement, labeling it as a violation of both Syria’s sovereignty and territorial integrity as well as a violation of international law.

FarsNews Agency – Syria in Last 24 Hours: Tahrir Al-Sham Starts Forced Recruitment of Soldiers for Battle with Syrian Army

Tahrir al-Sham al-Hay’at (the Levant Liberation Board or the Al-Nusra Front) launched forced recruitment of elite militants for a fresh round of battle against the Syrian Army as terrorists continue violating the ceasefire in Idlib despite Turkey’s pledge to dissolve and expel the terrorists from the demilitarized zone, reports in the last 24 hours said.

“Tahrir al-Sham has taken new measures to enroll new members with the aim of confronting the Syrian Army in Idlib province,” the pro-militant Anab Baladi news website reported.

Meantime, the Syrian army continued its military advances in other parts of Syria over past 24 hours.

Tens of terrorists were killed and dozens more were injured during the Syrian army’s operations in provinces across Syria.

Tahrir al-Sham launched forced recruitment of elite militants for a fresh round of battle against the Syrian Army as terrorists continue violating the ceasefire in Idlib despite Turkey’s pledge to dissolve and expel the terrorists from the demilitarized zone.

The pro-militant Anab Baladi news website reported that Tahrir al-Sham has taken new measures to enroll new members with the aim of confronting the Syrian Army in Idlib province.

It pointed to the release of communiques by commanders and Muftis of Tahrir al-Sham that call for enrollment of elite militants for affiliated terrorist groups such as Abi Bekr al-Sediq and Omar bin Khattab, and said that the recruited elite militants will have to launch special operations against the Syrian Army in the surrounding areas of Idlib province.

Military experts also reiterated that the measure by Tahrir al-Sham comes against Ankara’s pledges to dissolve the terrorist groups and their retreat from Aleppo-Hama and Aleppo-Lattakia highways.

Eastern Euphrates

The US new military aids destined for the Kurdish militias arrived in Eastern Syria as Turkey had issued an ultimatum to Washington to set up a safe zone along the borderline.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) said on Thursday that the US Coalition has dispatched around 150 trucks carrying military and logistics equipment and supplies to areas under the control of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) in Eastern Syria from Northern Iraq.

The SOHR underlined that the over 2,600 trucks carrying military equipment have been sent by the Syrian Army after Washington and the SDF declared end to the ISIL terrorist group in Eastern Euphrates.

Meantime, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan in a new warning against the US on setting up a safe zone in Northeastern Syrian said that if this region is not formed by the end of September, Ankara will take unilateral action.
