Mitt Romney Explains His Fake Twitter Account in the Most Mitt Romney Way Possible

As I shared yesterday, Mitt Romney, the world’s most virtuous and honest Republican, got caught with a fake Twitter account in which he promoted himself and liked tweets by Adam Schiff. You know, real conservative stuff from the severely conservative Utah Senator.

Now that Romney has admitted the account is his, he’s giving his excuse for why it was necessary.

This is Mitt Romney to the letter. Instead of just saying he was too cowardly to like a bunch of #resistance theater from his official account, he tries to play it off like he needed a second account to follow people. That makes no sense at all.

The “I like what I like” is at least a little more honest. He clearly likes Adam Schiff’s conspiratorial nonsense, Ana Navarro’s rantings, and Molly “I heckle pro-lifers” Jong-Fast. But wouldn’t it be more consistent for him to show his support for those people publicly? There’s no issue with being anonymous if someone chooses to be, but an elected official should at least be expected to not talk out of both sides of his mouth in the process. If he thinks George Conway’s nonsensical scream sessions on Twitter about Trump being a criminal are valid, why hide that?

Under his French burner account, Romney was your crazy TDS suffering uncle. In front of the cameras, he plays the measured statesman, only speaking out against Trump and never Democrats. It’s the most Mitt Romney thing ever.

We dodged a bullet with this guy in 2012. Four more years of the Romney and the GOP establishment spitting in the face of its base may have permanently fractured the party and delivered something far worse in 2016 than the four more years of Obama we got in 2012.

The good news is, this Romney’s “Pierre Delecto” episode probably shut the door on any possible political comeback for him at the Presidential level. He’s been completely exposed at this point as the carpetbagging grifter he is at this point.
