Politically Correct and English Language Follies & a Little Critical Thinking

I have a friend who is a bus driver … a big, strong Irish guy. Recently he was a little firm with an under-weight (skinny/scrawny) dude who was asking for yet another free ride … 3rd time in the week with a new excuse. My friend told him “no”. As soon as he did, some college student looked up from her phone and accused my friend of being a “weight supremacist”!

I’ve noticed that people working in shopping malls usually eat their meals in the ‘Food Court’ … great smelling food, fills the tummy, but not a balanced meal … so I wonder if they end up suffering the effects of “mall nutrition”!

You’re in a nice pub or restauant with friends. One of your table mates stands up and excuses themself saying they have to “take a pee”. Seems to me it would be better if the ‘left that pee’ …. “taking one” indicates they might have some plan to bring it back to the table. YUK!!

Waiting at a bus stop. A young gal walks up and politely asks me “How long will the bus be?” I answer her question accurately … “about 40 feet”. (If you want an answer … ask the right question.)

I listen to local talk radio. The program host is talking about a situation involving a traffic accident. He says that the driver was charged with “driving with undue care and attention” (neglect) … to my mind, driving with “undue” care and attention means MORE attention than necessary … an example of ‘lazy language’ … the actual charge was “driving withOUT due care and attention.”

Words are important and your choice of words can affect you in many ways!

While the examples above are fun in a twisted way … read a law dictionary and EDUCATE yourself about how many words you may use in everyday conversation mean something very different in a ‘statute’ a ‘law’ or a court room. Start with the word “must” (that should rattle you!) and see where your curiosity leads you!

Public School didn’t teach you about ‘contract law’ … time you did some LEARNING becuase ‘contracts’ are not just a ‘bizzness thang’ … they are also about what you ALLOW goverment and corporations to do to you and your life.

Once you’ve done so … swallow the red pill and be free … or, if you haven’t the fortitude, take the blue pill, accept your servitude, quit belly aching and enjoy your life as one of the sheep … just ‘mutton’ to those who will feed on you!
