Armenian President Armen Sarkissian urged European Union leaders and members of NATO to take a stand on what he deemed to be Turkish involvement in the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, speaking to members of the international media in Yerevan on Tuesday.

“A NATO member is fighting in a conflict which doesn’t have anything to do with NATO. Using their weapons, NATO-trained soldiers, technology,” he stressed.

“So that’s a big question to (the) European Union if you ask me. That’s a big question to NATO, have you given Turkey a green card to go and do whatever they are doing now? If yes, please tell us, if not why are you allowing then this to happen?” said Sarkissian.

Fighting between Armenia and Azerbaijan over the territory of Nagorno-Karabakh broke out on September 27 when sides of the conflict exchanged fire. It’s been the heaviest clashes in the region since 1994, with both sides blaming each other for the escalation amid rising casualty figures.
