King of Utah's New COVID Mandates

In tonight’s article I want to give my comments on Utah Governor Gary Herbert’s COVID Mandates. He has declared a state of emergency for the entire state with the folloiwing four mandates:

(1) The entire state of Utah is under a mandatory mask wearing mandate until further notice.

(2) Citizens of Utah may not participate in or host casual social gatherings with individuals other than those in their immediate household for two weeks. Organizers of public gatherings that do not exercise required precautions of social distancing and mask-wearing will be prosecuted by state and local authorites and can be fined up to $10,000 per occurrence.

(3) All sports and after-school activities will be postponed for the next two weeks, with the exception of high school playoff and championship games and intercollegiate sports. This postponement will immediate prioritize testing of student athletes involved in playoff and championship games and put in place a robust process of testing student athletes involved in other winter sports and activities.

(4) During this two-week period, public health teams will significantly expand their testing operations. During this two week period and beyond they will test more people who have symptoms, and will also launch a targeted testing program for those who don’t have symptoms.
