Delegates arrive as Syrian Constitutional Committee continues Geneva peace talks

Delegates arrived at Geneva’s Palais des Nations on Tuesday as the fifth round of talks by the Syrian Constitutional Committee continued.

Representatives from the Syrian opposition, the government, and civil society were seen entering the UN’s Swiss offices, as was UN Special Envoy for Syria Geir Pedersen.

The Syrian Constitutional Committee, which is tasked with drafting a new constitution, met for the first time in Geneva on October 30, 2019.

The committee is made up of 150 Syrian delegates representing the government, the opposition, and civil society. A ‘small body’ with 45 members – made up of 15 members from each group – is participating in the latest round of meetings, which are set to continue until January 29.
