Saudi-led coalition says it thwarted Houthi missile attack on Riyadh

Houthis announce operation targeting Saudi Arabia and pledge to expand their attacks

The spokesman for the Houthi armed forces, Brigadier General Yahya Saree, announced that they carried out “a large and joint offensive operation, towards the Saudi rear,” which he called the “Fifth Deterrence Balance,” during an official military statement on Sunday.

“The operation was carried out with a ballistic missile of the Zulfiqar type, and fifteen drones, including nine drones of the Samad type, three that targeted sensitive sites in the capital of the enemy, Riyadh, and six drones, type 2K bomber, that targeted military sites in the areas of Abha and Khamis Mushayt,” Saree said.

“The Yemeni armed forces confirm that their operations are continuing, and will expand further, as long as the aggression and siege on our country continues,” Saree went on to say.

The statement comes in the wake of the Saudi-led Arab coalition’s announcement that it had intercepted and destroyed a ballistic missile launched by the Houthis towards Riyadh and six explosive drones launched to target the southern region of the Kingdom.
