Iran politics: seven candidates approved to run in presidential polls

Azerbaijan: President Aliev meets Iranian FM Zarif in Baku

Azeri President Ilham Aliev held talks with Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif in Baku on Tuesday.

The Azeri leader praised the good relations between Baku and Tehran and the “really great progress in all areas” reached during Hassan Rouhani’s presidency.

He added that Iran and Azerbaijan need “to coordinate our efforts to contribute to a long-lasting and sustainable peace” in the South Caucasus region.

In his turn, Zarif commended the Azeri leadership for wanting to reach a peace agreement with Armenia over the disputed region of Nagorno-Karabakh.

“We are prepared in Iran to play whatever role that we can in order to achieve this and also in order to play a role in rebuilding and reconstruction of the liberated areas,” said Zarif.
