Revered Researcher Reza Javaherdashti: Confronting The Challenges Brought Upon By Corrosion

Corrosion has always been a problematic issue that has affected the economy since the beginning of time. Perhaps one of his most dangerous impacts has occurred in major industries like chemical processing plants or electrical power plants. The environment is a large contributing factor that encourages corrosion to occur.

Corrosion is a process that involves the degradation of materials due to their level of interaction with natural elements. The effects of this directly lead to objects, particularly ones made of metal, to degrade and get destroyed with time.

Consequently, the costs that have come about from managing these corroding processes has become a hassle for economies around the world. Not only do they have to pay for the costs of the equipment, but they also need to take care of the additional costs that come about from its social influence that affect the public who are within the vicinity of these corroded objects.

Consequently, these challenges have to be met and immediately dealt with to lower the pressure on economic finances and shift their focus towards other demanding economic crises.

Implementing Change With Reza Javaherdashti

Fortunately, measures to reverse the corrosion crisis have been implemented in many ways, thanks to the significant contribution of Reza Javaherdashti.

As an Australian-Iranian researcher and author, Javaherdashti has spent many years working as a field engineer, consultant, and trainer who has been focusing on microbiologically influenced corrosion (MIC). From 2010 to 2012, Javaherdashti was employed by the Qatar University as the Assistant Professor at Materials Technology Unit (MTU), and in 2014, he was employed by the Extrin Consultants in Western Australia as a Senior Engineer to deal with the corrosion issues that occurred in mining, gas, oil and marine structures in Papua New Guinea and Australia.

Further into his career, he started a Lead Engineer position at Xodus Consulting in Western Australia to handle the corrosion-based issues in subsea pipelines and spent time at their headquarters studying corrosion management projects in the North Sea.

His years of working in the corrosion management field led him to share his research on corrosion knowledge management. In 2002, he authored his first book in Persian about corrosion management that was published by the Iranian Gas Company. This was then followed by several other papers published in internally reputable journals, workshops, and webinars for various industries that include gas, oil, and petrochemical industries.

Javaherdashti has also considered other theories and taken them to understand corrosion. For example, he has used Fuzzy Logics and calculus that was initially proposed by Professor Lotfi Asgarzadeh into Microbial Corrosion. Fuzzy Logics and calculus can be used to mathematically study complex systems, and since the interactions imposed by corrosions has a complex system, Javaherdashti has been studying the possibility, and feasibility of apply fuzzy Logics and mathematics to such systems, and his work in this regard has shown that this could be one of the best ways to study MIC and come up ideal solutions to diminish the impact of corrosion on a global scale.
