Suddenly the Term ‘Ground Zero’ Takes on a Whole New Meaning in Southern Texas
In this 27 May 2021 video interview, Kyle Bass talks on American Thought Leaders, The Epoch Times, about a block of 200 square miles owned by the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) in the state of Texas.
Based on the evidence presented by Kyle Bass, the Texas government voted in May 2021 for the Lone Star Infrastructure Protection Act, which waits on Governor Greg Abbott’s desk for his signature into law. Texas Bill 87R relates to prohibiting contracts or other agreements with certain foreign-owned companies in connection with critical infrastructure in the state.
It was in 2018 when local Texas officials say they became aware the Xinjiang Guanghui Industry Investment Group had purchased several adjacent properties under the holding company Brazos Highland Properties LP, controlled by GH America Energy, the U.S. unit of the Chinese firm. The CEO of the company, Sun Guangxin, is a former officer in China’s People’s Liberation Army and one of the largest landowners in China’s Xinjiang province. Besides being one of the richest persons in China’s embattled Xinjiang province, home of the concentration camps detaining ethnic Uyghur Muslims, Sun Guangxin owns two-thirds of the real estate in the capital of Xinjiang, employs 6,000 CCP members and his two closest advisors are ex-PLA generals
At the same time, local environmentalists in the area heard the company was proposing to build numerous wind turbines, fifty to one hundred thirty, each at a height which filings indicate could reach seven hundred feet above ground level. (1) The environmentalists feared the negative impact of having wind turbines in the area, situated on the Edwards Plateau and a recharge zone for the Edwards Aquifer. A natural paradise known for clear waters, boating, fishing, nature enthusiuits, wildlife and hunting just to name a few arractions.
Luckily, a successful government block was achieved; no wind turbines, good news for nearby Laughlin Air Force Base. Operating from one of the Air Force’s busiest airfields would have been seriously impacted if Chinese wind turbines had taken root across the horizon.
Situated eight miles east of Del Rio, Texas, Laughlin Air Force Base is home to the 47th Flying Training Wing, operating from one of the Air Force’s busiest airfields, a premier pilot training center. Laughlin Air Force Base trains pilots for the United States Air Force, Air Force Reserve, Air National Guard and allied nation air forces.
Look south and six miles away is the US/Mexico border, the international Amistad Reservoir and the Amistad National Recreation Area. The Del Rio area connects with neighbor Ciudad Acuna in Coahuila, Mexico, by two border crossings: the Del Rio-Ciudad Acuna International Bridge and the Lake Amistad Dam International Crossing.
On the Kyle Bass video, he mentions the Morning Star Ranch, a 19,202.83 acre ranch and part of the 200 square mile block of land aquired by Sun Guangxin. Discovered the August 2014 sales video for the Morning Star Ranch, located in Del Rio, Texas. Asking price at that time was $30,000,000, and the wind energy and solar energy development plans were mentioned in the sales pitch video, four years before 2018. Beautiful views, easy access including an airfield
Morning Star Ranch, located in Val Verde County, is 19,202.83 acres of uniqueness. Situated on the southwestern edge of the Edwards Plateau where the Hill Country meets the Brush Country, the ranch offers stunning beauty and the vegetation famous for growing exceptional wildlife. Equidistant from Sonora, Rock Springs and Del Rio, with four miles of frontage on Highway 277 and a 50 X 4200 airstrip, coming and going is easy.
Long-term wildlife management efforts have resulted in thriving populations of white-tailed deer, white wing dove, turkey as well as elk, blackbuck, Mouflon sheep, Auodad sheep, Barbados sheep, Iranian red sheep, fallow deer and axis deer. Hunting has been limited, but the variety and numbers of wildlife could sustain a profitable commercial hunting enterprise.
There are more than 50 deer blinds and 75 feeders, suitable for both rifle and bowhunting. All equipment transfers with the property. The ranch features 10 miles of paved roads, 25 miles of caliche roads and innumerable jeep and ATV trails, so safari-style hunting is possible.
The Morning Stars features four compounds, each with its own character for living and entertaining,: the Little Diamond Headquarters, the Indian Hill Headquarters, the Airport Headquarters and the McCrea Headquarters. The Little Diamond Headquarters features the recently restored Burgeone Home transplanted from a plantation on the Mississippi River. The original cypress walls and floors came from trees that were estimated to be 200 years old at harvest. The Indian Hills Headquarters features the ranchs newest home. The hilltop location provides a spectacular 360 view that includes Red Bluff Creek. The 3 bedroom/2 bath home, featuring native cedar and native stone and a wraparound porch, was designed with outdoor entertaining in mind. It includes a complete outdoor kitchen complemented by custom grill, an outdoor bar with a big screen tv, a fire ring and a hot tub. The Airport Headquarters is located near the airstrip and the 15,000 square foot hangar. It features four duplexes, able to handle a crowd. The complex includes a large commercial kitchen as well as fully equipped meat processing facility that can accommodate large animals such as elk. The McCrea Headquarters features the former home of Joel McCrea, a star during the golden age of western movies.
Red Bluff Creek, an intermittent creek supplemented by three small springs, meanders through the ranch for several miles. Several Native American cave shelters with paintings are located along the creek. The ranch has 20 water wells and five stock ponds.
In addition, the ranch will be the site of the region’s first wind energy and solar energy development. The infrastructure will be installed along the rugged ridgelines, masking the presence of their income-generating power. The Texas Nature Conservancy has also expressed interest in preserving the ranch’s unique environment through a conservation easement. While the decision to enact a conservation easement would be completely voluntary, it could provide significant tax benefits.
Suddenly, this area of Texas is a very busy place, rubbing shoulders daily with China, Mexico and the United States Airforce. Talk about walking a tightrope.
(1) Since 2012, the average height of onshore wind turbines installed in the United States have been about 280 feet, with heights of 466 feet or higher only rarely seen. Any onshore turbine higher than 499 feet gets the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) involved in the approval process. The tallest onshore US turbines is in Hancock County, Maine, about 574 feet tall. Offshore turbines in Rhode Island stand at 590 feet. but the GE Haliade-X prototype located in Rotterdam sets a new world record; 853 feet tall.
