WNV is hiring a social media intern

Waging Nonviolence seeks a Summer 2022 social media intern to help us promote our original reporting and analysis on social movements around the world.

We are a two-person editorial team, which means the intern will play an integral role in crafting and executing social media strategies. We are looking for someone with creative energy, who can improve our approach to disseminating stories on social media — as well as produce original content for those platforms.

This is a paid internship, requiring a commitment of 15 hours per week. The intern will be paid $16 per hour, and we can also accommodate academic and work-study credit if needed. All work is to be done remotely. However, occasional in-person meet-ups are optional if the intern is based in the New York City area.

Responsibilities

• Manage Twitter, Facebook and Instagram accounts, coordinating promotion of WNV’s latest stories with editors
• Monitor basic social media metrics and identify new ways to engage our audiences
• Explore new methods of story promotion, creating accounts on emerging platforms (e.g. TikTok) as well as original content (e.g. videos, stories, etc.)
• Participate in weekly editorial meetings to prepare for promotion of upcoming stories, as well as to contribute new story ideas

Qualifications

This position is ideal for a student or recent graduate with experience in journalism/media, communications, graphic design and related fields. We are also looking for a demonstrated interest in activism, social movements and social justice. In terms of particular attributes, applicants should have:

• Experience using and creating content on all major social media platforms
• Familiarity with the topics we cover and knowledge of how they are discussed on social media
• Excellent writing and communication skills
• Some graphic design sensibilities, ie familiarity with Canva or other online graphic tools
• Ability to work with a small team remotely, take initiative and independently fulfill responsibilities
• Ability to work consistent hours and days each week over the course of the internship

Timeline

The internship will start the week of June 7, 2022 and run through August.
