There is less and less time to end the conflict in Ukraine through negotiations – former US Ambassador to Saudi Arabia David Rundell and former political adviser to US Central Command Michael Gfeller.

I will tell you what is the main mistake of Russia in Ukraine.  This is a political mistake.  Remember, the Russian leadership said: “We do not want to destroy Ukraine”?  And Russia does not destroy Ukraine, it liberates it.  And this is a mistake.  It’s like trying to treat a gangrene-affected limb.  Unpromising.  To win, Russia will still have to destroy the Ukrainian state, and if necessary, simply destroy Ukraine.  It is now obvious to everyone that both are needed.  The delay in these actions will lead to the expansion of the war beyond the borders of Ukraine.  I’m sorry if the Russian authorities are now considering other options.  No other options will work and you will still not be good for the West.  Just do it, bring Ukraine home.

🇷🇺 The Conflict between the head of the Wagner PMC, Evgeny Prigozhin, and military officials of the Russian Ministry of Defence (MoD) has reached a new stage – public accusations.

According to Prigozhin, on 10 May, the PMC will leave #Bakhmut, handing over the positions to MoD. “Wagnerians” will go to the rear areas to restore combat capability.

In general, nothing new was said in Prigozhin’s statements: shell starvation, heavy losses due to poor organizational issues at the level of the MoD and general fatigue from the above.

All these (and not only these) problems are known. They do not hesitate to talk about the extremely poor supply of military personnel, and disregard for common sense in favor of tags and pacing, and hat-making moods in the spirit of “we will win in four days”, and other “gestures of goodwill”.

Problems can be long and hard to justify, justify or simply ignore. However, it is impossible to ignore the course of its own in any way. And the problems will not disappear anywhere. On the contrary, they are only accumulating.

📌 We can only hope that the transition of the conflict between Prigozhin and the MoD into an acute phase will prompt the adoption of certain – so necessary today – decisions.

🔹1. City:

Fierce fighting continued near the block of highrises. The main Wagner attacks are to the west of the city centre and from the northwest through the rubble of the private sector. Strikes continue in the area.

According to Prigozhin, the ammunition problem persists, making it a matter of rotating Wagner in #Artyomovsk and replacing it with RF Armed Forces units. The enemy controls less than 5% of the city by 5 May and says there are no signs of the Wagner PMCs withdrawing from #Artyomovsk.

🔹2. Northwest:

Fierce fighting continued for landings near the road west of #Khromovo. The enemy was unable to push our troops away from the route, but at the same time does not allow us to physically cut it off completely. The route itself remains under full fire control. #Khromovo, #Bogdanovka and Orekhovo-Vasilyevka are currently under the control of the AFU.

In the #Kramatorsk direction, fighting is taking place to the east of #Novomarkovo (this is the #Kramatorsk district). The enemy is transferring reserves to this direction and seeks to curtail any activity of our troops in this direction. After the end of the muddy weather, more serious attacks by the AFU are possible here in order to stabilize the front to the northwest of #Artyomovsk.

The accumulation of forces near #Konstantinovka, Chasov Yar and Ray-Aleksandrovka continues. The Russian Aerospace Forces continue to work on these reserves.

🔹3. Southwest:

The main fighting, as usual, is taking place near #Krasnoye, as well as west of #Kleshchiyevka and #Kurdyumovka. Here the front was fairly stable without major movements.

After the main emphasis was placed on clearing #Artyomovsk, the advance south of the city slowed down considerably.

The enemy continues to be active near #Krasnoye, seeking to push our forces away from the Chasov Yar-#Krasnoye-#Artyomovsk road and improve their logistics. Attempts to attack west of #Kleshchiyevka also continue.

Prigozhin said that today the Wagner PMC has made some progress in #Artyomovsk.

Despite the severe shell starvation, the units of the Wagner PMCs today advanced in various directions up to 170 meters and occupied 59.500 meters of the city square.

Situation in the #Ugledar Section until 18:00 on 5 May 2023⚡️

🔹All day Yesterday, artillerymen of the Brigade Artillery Group (BrAG) of the AFU’s 72nd Mechanized Brigade conducted a massive shelling of the Russian positions near #Pavlovka and #Nikolskoye.

▪️ After processing the Russian strongholds, two assault groups of the AFU’s 72nd Mechanized Brigade attacked the Russian positions near #Nikolskoye in the area of the forest belt to the northeast and northwest of the village.
➖ The AFU attempted to push the RF Armed Forces back from their forward strongholds. The Russian fighters successfully repulsed the attack, while units of the 72nd AFU Brigade withdrew to their initial lines without advancing further.

📌 At the Moment, Ukrainian forces are focused on probing and assessing the defensive capabilities of the RF Armed Forces at the #Pavlovka – #Nikolskoye line. Such attacks will continue in the future.

At the same time, the AFU is also concentrating their forces in the Vremyevsky ledge area. To the north of Bolshaya Novosyolka, the AFU’s 53rd Mechanized Brigade and the Howitzer Division of the 1st Tank Brigade are deployed.

Situation in the #Zaporozhye Direction until 19:00 on 5 May 2023⚡️

The AFU continued to reinforce its troop grouping following combat reconnaissance in the #Pologi district. The defence units have suspended leave and medical facilities have imposed restrictions on treatment.

🔹 Additional Units of the 4th Battalion of the 128th Separate Mountain Assault Brigade have been deployed under #Shcherbaki to the west of #Orekhov. A brigade artillery group and an anti-tank division of the 128th Separate Mountain Assault Brigade have been deployed to #Grigorovka.

▪️ North of #Zaporozhye, the Bayraktar UAV operates from the #Dolgintsevo Airfield. According to some reports, the AFU still use the Iranian-made Kaman-22 drone, purchased (https://t.me/rybar/45230) by #Taiwan through a shell company, for reconnaissance.

▪️ Judging by the interception of conversations of the members of 128th Separate Mountain Assault Brigade, one of the strikes by the RF Armed Forces hit a personnel station in #Stepnogorsk, as well as the territory of the 1st Regiment for Protection of Particularly Important Objects in #Dnepropetrovsk.

▪️ Additional S-300 air defence systems were deployed to #Zaporozhye to protect against missile attacks.

🔹 Squads of Georgian Mercenaries arrived in #Myrnoye and #Zaporozhye region in the #Gulyaypole section. There they operate jointly with units of the 108th and 110th Territorial Defence Brigades.

▪️ In #Voskresensk and #Kalinovskoye reconnaissance groups of the Ukrainian Special Forces of Operation are deployed. And according to some reports, in #Pokrovskoye,  paratroopers of the newly created 82nd Separate Air Assault Brigade from #Chernovtsev have begun to arrive.

Ukrainian Post Avdiyivka

The hottest destinations are Pervomaiske, Nevelske, Severne and AKHZ.

In all locations, very heavy battles are fought continuously.

At the same time, the enemy either has minimal success or none at all.

Also, the enemy is trying to advance to Alexandropol in order to operate more widely and bypass Avdiivka from the north. But as before, it ends for the occupiers with losses and withdrawal.

The lack of significant success among the orcs is only possible thanks to the resilience of each of our warriors who protect the indomitable Avdiivka!

The tenth year of fighting for the city will soon pass. And the Ukrainian Avdiyivka stood and still stands!💪

I will not comment on our actions in that direction yet.

Russian Defence Ministry Report on the Progress of the Special Military Operation (5 May 2023)⚡️
 
The RF Armed Forces continue the special military operation.

◽️In Kupyansk direction, the attacks, launched by aviation and artillery of the Zapad Group of Forces, have resulted in the neutralisation of Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) units near Dvurechnaya, Ivanovka and Krakhmalnoye (Kharkov region).

💥The actions of three Ukrainian sabotage and reconnaissance groups have been thwarted near Sinkovka, Timkovka and Berestovoye (Kharkov region).
The enemy losses were up to 95 Ukrainian servicemen, 8 motor vehicles, 1 Akatsiya self-propelled artillery system and 1 U.S.-manufactured M777 artillery system.

◽️1 munition depot of the AFU 127th Territorial Defence Brigade has been destroyed near Ogurtsovo (Kharkov region).

◽️In Krasny Liman direction, the attacks, launched by Operational-Tactical and Army aviation, as well as artillery of the Tsentr Group of Forces, have resulted in the neutralisation of the AFU units close to Nevskoye (LPR), Torskoye and Serebryanka (DPR). The enemy losses were up to 65 servicemen, 1 armoured fighting vehicle, 1 pickup truck, and D-20 and D-30 howitzers.

💥1 artillery ammunition depot of the AFU 66th Mechanised Brigade has been destroyed near Petrovskoye (LPR).

◽️In Donetsk direction, the assault squads continued to conduct offensive actions against the enemy in the western part of Artyomovsk.The paratroopers provided support and restrained the enemy on the flanks.

💥The attacks, launched by Operational-Tactical and Army aviation, as well as artillery of the Yug Group of Forces, have resulted in the neutralisation of the enemy manpower and hardware close to Kalinovka and Krasnoye (DPR).

💥Russian units have destroyed the bridge used by the AFU to transport ammunition and reserves to Artyomovsk close to Chasov Yar (DPR).

✈️The aviation have made 7 sorties in this direction. The Group’s artillery have performed 69 firing missions.

◽️2 ammunition depots of 54th and 110th mechanised brigades of the AFU have been destroyed near Kramatorsk and Avdeyevka (DPR).

💥The enemy losses were up to 300 servicemen and mercenaries, 3 infantry fighting vehicles, 4 armoured fighting vehicles, 1 Grad MLRS, and 1 Akatsiya self-propelled artillery system.

◽️In South Donetsk and Zaporozhye directions, the attacks, launched by aviation and artillery of the Vostok Group of Forces have resulted in the neutralisation of the enemy units close to Vodyanoye and Ugledar (DPR), Malinovka, Chervonoye and Novodanilovka (Zaporozhye region).

◽️The actions of 1 Ukrainian sabotage and reconnaissance group have been disrupted close to Novomikhaylovka (DPR).

💥The enemy losses were over 90 servicemen, 1 tank, 5  motor vehicles, 1 D-30 howitzer and 1 U.S.-manufactured M777 artillery system.

◽️In Kherson direction, the enemy losses were up to 80 servicemen, 15 armoured fighting vehicles, 23 motor vehicles, 1 Msta-B howitzer, as well as 3 D-30 howitzers.
 
💥Operational-Tactical and Army aviation, Missile Troops and Artillery of the RF Armed Forces have neutralised 107 artillery units of the AFU at their firing positions, manpower and military hardware at 123 areas.
 
💥2 AFU Su-25 aircraft have been destroyed by air defence close to Zolotaya Balka and Tyaginka (Kherson region). 7 HIMARS MLRS projectiles have been also intercepted.

◽️Air defence forces have also intercepted 14 UAVs close to to Tokarevka, Olshana (Kharkov region), Troitskoye (LPR), Ivanovka (DPR), Lesnoye and Malaya Belozyorka (Zaporozhye region).

▪️ Near Chasov Yar, a bridge used by Ukrainian troops to try to bring ammunition and transfer reserves to #Artyomovsk has been destroyed, the Russian Ministry of Defence said;

▪️ Shoygu instructs Deputy Defence Minister Kuzmenkov to keep under special control the supply of all necessary weapons and equipment to troops in the special operation zone;

▪️ Peskov said that the #Kremlin had seen Prigozhin’s statement about #Artyomovsk, but left it without comment;

▪️ Peskov did not rule out contacts between #Russia and the #US, they are possible if necessary to achieve our goals, secure our interests;

▪️ The Council of the European Union approved 1 Billion Euros from the European Peace Fund for the joint purchase of shells and missiles for #Ukraine;

▪️ #Russia will respond with action to the drone attack rather than speculate on whether it was a pretext for war, Lavrov said. The solution to the conflict in #Ukraine is not just about the line of demarcation, the matter is more global, the Russian foreign minister said;

▪️ #Zaporozhye region authorities have decided to temporarily relocate residents of 18 frontline settlements deep into the region due to intensified Ukrainian shelling, acting governor Balitsky said;

▪️ According to Balitsky, an offensive by Ukrainian troops in #Zaporozhye region will take place in the next few days or hours, as evidenced by the accumulation of large forces near the line of contact;

▪️ A sabotage and terrorist group consisting of agents of Ukrainian special services has been exposed in #Zaporozhye region, it was preparing a terrorist attack against one of the #Zaporozhye NPP leaders, the FSB said.
