The Saudi-organized Ukraine “peace talks” accomplished nothing, as predicted. That hasn’t stopped the Wall Street Journal from seeing things — claiming that Kiev has backtracked on its hardline “peace formula” (a set of 10 demands amounting to Russia’s unconditional surrender). Those “European diplomats” who sourced this claim were either engaging in wishful thinking or propaganda.

Either way, no matter — Zelensky’s top aide, the odious Podolyak, fired off a couple tweets today insisting that there has been no change, there can be “no compromise,” Ukraine is not abandoning its “platform.” But then he went a step further, and claimed that Russia would use any ceasefire to rearm and wait for “key leaders” in the West to leave before restarting the war. In other words, exactly what Kiev and its sponsors did with Minsk 1 & 2, per repeated statements from Angela Merkel, Francois Hollande, and Pyotr Poroshenko.

KIev’s entire argument at this point is “gibs moar weaponz”. Except the West is running out of them, almost as fast as Zelensky’s regime is running out of “meat.” 

The newest talking point about Ukraine seems to be fighting retreat by the GAE. Remember how “every country” had the sovereign right to choose NATO (but not otherwise)? And then how that became “every country in Europe” when it was the Solomon Islands choosing China? Well, here’s the Polish president explaining what’s going on with Ukraine:

“We are sending them arms. Why? Because we want to support them in defending their own territory. And by we, I don’t just mean we Poles. It is we Americans, we French, we British, we Germans, we the entire democratic world….  But the whole democratic world also knows that any aggressor who violates the borders of a democratic state in the 21st century in Europe must be stopped.” (Andrzej Duda interview to WaPo, August 1, published August 10)

Catch that? So it’s not that violating borders is bad per se, because that would put GAE on the hook. But adding qualifiers — democracy, Europe, 21st century — Duda gets his masters exempt from, say, dismembering Yugoslavia. Or dreaming of dismembering Russia — as they do — because “democracy.”

Oh, Duda also said that Ukrainians are “not currently able to carry out a very decisive counteroffensive against the Russian military” but that this only shows they “probably do not have enough weapons” so they need more. Of course.

Assault detachments of the 37th Naval Infantry Brigade again attacked the positions of the Russian army in the Urozhayny area last night. As a result of the fighting, the enemy was able to gain a foothold on the northern outskirts of the village and began to equip observation posts there.

On the afternoon of August 10, the AFU intended to attack the defense lines of the Russian Armed Forces in the south of the settlement with four groups of marines. Before that, Ukrainian artillerymen fired at the strongholds with cluster munitions.

The Russian army continues to put pressure on the Armed Forces of Ukraine in the Donetsk direction – what is happening on the fronts on the morning of August 10

 In the Donetsk direction, the Russian army, with the support of artillery, is actively counterattacking and storming enemy positions in the areas of Novomikhailovka, Maryinka, Severny and on the eastern approaches to Avdiivka. At the same time, the Armed Forces of Ukraine are unsuccessfully trying to hold on to their defensive positions and use small assault groups, reinforced with armored vehicles, as “fire brigades” to support the defenders.

In the Zaporizhia direction, the militants are constantly moving personnel along the line of contact and changing areas for a further breakthrough of our positions. So, the enemy made another attempt at a “meat offensive”, shifting the attack vector from Rabotino to Verbovoye. Our fighters repulsed the attack and inflicted significant damage on the advancing forces.

Fierce battles for Kleshcheevka and the dominating heights continue in the Bakhmut (Artemovsk) direction. The same situation has developed in the Andreevka area, where the Armed Forces of Ukraine, despite huge losses in manpower and military equipment, are desperately trying to push through our defenses.

Ukrainian Formations continue to shell the Civilian Infrastructure of the #DPR on a daily Basis⚡️

🔹The enemy fired more than 140 shells and carried out 42 attacks. Residential buildings were damaged in the Kuybyshevsky and Kievsky districts of #Donetsk. In #Yasinovataya, the building of school No. 5 was damaged. In the Central City district of #Gorlovka, a man on his balcony died from shrapnel wounds as a result of a direct hit to his flat.

Ukrainian Drone Attack on #Crimea⚡️

🗓 Early in the morning, after a comprehensive reconnaissance by the US and NATO Air Forces, Ukrainian formations again attacked the Crimean peninsula with Mugin-5 PRO drones launched from the #Odessa region.

▪️ As a result of joint work between units of the 31st Air Defence Division and the RF Armed Forces’ electronic warfare teams, 12 targets have been downed. 10 were suppressed by Electronic Warfare at Cape #Tarkhankut and #Yevpatoriya, 1 was shot down by a Tor SAM over #Khersones, and 1 was shot down by a Pantsir SAM on its way to Novofedorovsky Airfield over #Saki.

Situation in the #Kupyansk Sector until 15:00 on 10 August 2023⚡️

🔹Near Kupyansk, the servicemen of the RF Armed Forces group “West” are conducting a positional offensive on the positions of Ukrainian formations northwest of the city.

💥 The situation of the AFU has seriously deteriorated. The number of casualties as a result of systematic strikes by Russian troops is growing. And evacuation is virtually impossible due to constant shelling and reluctance of evacuation teams to go to the front line.

The units of the RF Armed Forces broke through the first line of defense of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in several sectors of the front in Serebryansky forestry. The situation in this direction for the Armed Forces of Ukraine is rapidly becoming more complicated. There are few response options, and none of them is good or even acceptable for the Ukrainian army.

What is happening in the Kupyansk direction?

 During the offensive, units of the RF Armed Forces came close to Sinkovka, one of the last settlements before Kupyansk in the Kharkov region. Kupyansk, to which the Russian army is only 7 km away, as well as the objects of the Armed Forces of Ukraine around it, is located in the zone of destruction of Russian artillery.

At the same time, the RF Armed Forces advanced towards Kamenka and Dvurechnaya in the north-east of the Kharkiv region, which forced the Armed Forces of Ukraine to stretch their forces and decompress the defense in these directions. For the past four weeks, all the border facilities of the Armed Forces of Ukraine – headquarters of companies and battalions, warehouses with fuel and ammunition – have been actively worked out by Russian aviation. The FAB-250-M62 and UPAB-1500 bombs were used from a range of 50 km, due to which the Aspide short-range air defense systems of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and the Soviet Strela did not have time to react and were destroyed along with key objects of the Ukrainian army. What units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine are located near Kupyansk?

 At least ten large formations of the Armed Forces of Ukraine were left for the defense of the Kupyansky district: the 10th and 36th separate rifle battalions, the 5th separate battalion, the 3rd separate tank brigade, the 14th separate motorized brigade, the 103rd and 105th brigades TRO, 92nd Motorized Rifle Brigade, 132nd Airborne Assault Brigade,

What is the importance of the Kupyansky district for the Armed Forces of Ukraine?

 Both settlements are located in a lowland and surrounded by hills, which complicates their defense and simplifies the assault using artillery. Another problematic point in the Kupyansky district for the Armed Forces of Ukraine is the so-called eastern corner – the place where the villages of Kotlyarovka and Kislovka are located.

A railway line passes through them, leading directly to Kupyansk-nodal, the central logistics hub of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (not counting Chuguev and Kharkiv) in the Kharkiv direction, linking three regions of Ukraine.

To the south of Kupyansk-nodal, in addition to small towns, is Slavyansk, the supply of which may be disrupted if Kupyansk is abandoned by Ukrainian troops.

In addition to the loss of control over the railway communication, the abandonment of Kupyansk by the Armed Forces of Ukraine may open the way for the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation to Shevchenkovo ​​and Chuguev along the H-26 highway.

The distance from Kupyansk to Chuguev by road is 80 km, the direct distance is less than 65 km, which, if Kupyansk is lost by the Ukrainian army, automatically means that it will be possible to work out Chuguev with long-range rocket artillery and guided bombs FAB-250-M62.

Will the Armed Forces of Ukraine be able to keep Kupyansk?

 The main forces of the Ukrainian army are involved in the attack on Zaporozhye and in the South-Donetsk direction. An attempt to hold back the RF Armed Forces near Kupyansk with the help of operational reserves has so far failed.

Most likely, in order to create an effective defense along the borders of the Kupyansky district, the Armed Forces of Ukraine will need to attract strategic reserves. It is possible, although unlikely, that in order to stop or at least slow down the offensive of the RF Armed Forces in this area, the Armed Forces of Ukraine will remove some units from other sectors of the front. 🔹In #Zaporozhye Direction, the AFU changed the vector of attacks from #Rabotino to #Verbovoye. The RF Armed Forces repelled the attacks, they withdrew. Nevertheless, the enemy failed to develop its success. An attempt to continue the attack was foiled by Russian fighters who continued to hold the southern part of the village.

🔹In the early morning, the AFU again attacked# Crimea with drones launched from #Odessa region. Russian air defence and electronic warfare equipment intercepted 12 drones near Cape #Tarkhankut, #Yevpatoriya and #Sakami. As before, American and French aircraft were conducting reconnaissance in the Black Sea in anticipation of the attack.

🔹#Bakhmut (#Artyomovsk) Direction:

▪️ Heavy fighting for #Kleshcheyevka continues. Also the AFU, suffering heavy losses, are unsuccessfully attacking near #Andreyevka.

🔹#Donetsk Direction:
