Hurricane in Hawaii made all ship’s leave, I was a E-3 undesignated deck seaman that would get beat up in the sleeping area while a scout looked out from a E-4. . Another division 2nd class called me out to fix a hole 🕳️ in the net on the side.. his division came out along the nets. I was in the middle of the ship,that was at a 30 degree angle riding a Wave. They were rolling pallets across on a steel cable from our AE ship to the Carl Vinson aircraft carrier ship . A Wave came over the side and splashed me and the 2nd class . I didn’t have training on the nets but second division that did came out along the nets with a mid shipment leading them right when the Wave came over the side and washed the floor with a big splash , the midshipman was washed into the nets from the Wave and went through the hole in the net and drowned or got ran over by the ship following us. The sar swimmer drowned too. Nobody has life preservers on.
