NYC Is Forcing Families to Leave... Permanently! (Video)

% of readers think this story is Fact. Add your two cents.

In this 28 March 2024 video, realtor and family-man Cash Jordan takes a hard look at why New York City is losing so many families.

Here in NYC the costs just keep going up, making this a very tough time to try to live in New York, especially for families, and some people think that is being allowed to happen on purpose. Mayor Adams has publicalyy stated New Yorkers should be feeling some relief after city authorities completed two punishing rounds of budget cuts to all but the most essential city services. If the city were to do a third round of cuts, that would impact garbage pickup and city libraries.

All this comes as Mayor Adams is making budget cuts to the existing vital 3K and preK programs which are leaving a lot of families in a bind. The expense of child care has been rising astronomically, with some families reporting the monthly expense is almost like paying another mortgage.  According to a new report, more than 80 percent of New York City families can’t afford Child Care Family. Some individuals are currently speculating NYC families would need to make more than $300,000 a year on average to afford to live in the city and cost the high costs required for rent/mortage payments, food costs and child care.

It is no secret working class residents are fleeing New York City but what nobody is talking about is that even though costs are going up for everybody - rent groceries utilities - they are going up even higher and even faster for families in  New York.

We keep hearing from politicians about how families are so important but it seems very little is being done to protect  those who are trying to raise the next generation of New Yorkers and that raises some very uncomfortable questions. Why is it that nobody here seems to be taking any action to protect families and if families and working class individuals are leaving New York City, what is going to happen to this place and will the city become a dystopian nightmare , completely controlled by big Tech businesses and big Finance businesses?

Families are finding it almost impossible to live in New York City and it’s not for the reasons you might think. So the price  of groceries is skyrocketing in the city that’s a problem for everybody but it’s an extra a problem for families which nobody is really aware of or fully understands. Prices have skyrocketed for everybody, with food prices up 23 percent over the last 5 years and if that wasn’t bad enough, groceries are 40 percent more here in New York than in other places. On top of that families with kids spend 41 percent more on groceries than families without kids but even though that may sound excessive, it’s not the real reason families are leaving. Another budget impact but still not the real reason families are moving is high rents. A family who wants to live in middle of Manhattan is going to need seven thousand a month for an apartment.

Yes housing and food are massive issues but there’s actually another problem facing families which makes both of these worse and if this particular problem didn’t exist it might actually be possible for families to make it in New York City but  sadlt that’s not the case.

Sadly over 80 percent of New York City families cannot afford to use a daycare, which means less than 20 percent of  families can afford to place a child into a daycare. That translates to eight out of 10 families not able to afford childcare. So one parent is able to work and one parent must stay home to care for the kids. How can a familiy afford the rent and the groceries is a system like that? That’s why families are leaving.

How much do you need to make if you want to survive in New York City? The childcare sector of the city is in a serious crisis. As previouly mentioned, a family would need to make more than $300,000 a year to afford childcare. That essentially means you’ve got to be one of New York City’s top earners to live here and be middle class which by default would make you one of the top earners in America but what’s also pretty interesting is that even though childcare costs  are pretty much unaffordable, the providers themselves aren’t making enough money to stay in business and they’re closing, resulting in fewer slots for families to get childcare. With childcare already overpriced and the few providers  remaining starting to stuggle to stay open, it’s going to be nearly impossible to have a dual parent household where both parents are working and that’s because at some point there just won’t be any childcare providers left in the city.

What is crazy about all this is published reports indocate it costs $166,000 a year for childcare, aninsane amount. We are talking about a small kid who stays in a building all day, waiting for their parents to come back and get them but if businesses like this are shutting down because they cannot make it even with the costs soaring it means there’s something else going on here which which nobody wants to talk about. Most New York City families are under the impression that after they get their kids through the early stages, they will be able to put them in school, where the taxpayer funded daycare kicks in but for some reason the city is closing down its preK and young kid programs also.

Almost 10 years ago, New York City made Universal preK a reality, the next step in line 3K program, but the 3K program has had some major cuts under Mayor Adams. His administration has slashed the city’s preschool budget by about7 $7 million in recent bugets, so as of 2022 there are over six percent fewer kids under the age of eighteen living in New York City and if there are fewer kids living in New York City, then the city budget is designed to pay for fewer kid related  programs. This becomes another link in a disastrous chain of events. First you’ve got families leaving the city which  means there are no kids in the daycare programs and if there are no kids in the daycares programs those kids don’t  make it to preschool programs and if the kids don’t make it to the preschool programs, they don’t make it to high school and if the other city services which support families end up closing because there isn’t any business, it’s just going to get harder for families who try to stay.
