Tasty Bank Holiday start to food festival
Now in its third year Flavour Fortnight is one of Scotland’s biggest food festivals. With a dispersed programme which includes foodie events, experiences, days out, practical workshops, markets, dining events, talks, special menus, competitions and special local food themed overnight breaks, Flavour Fortnight is a perfect excuse to indulge in and enjoy the flavours of Dumfries & Galloway.
Highlights of the programme include wild food experiences, artisan bread making tuition, brewery tours, ice cream cake making workshops, a slow food day and wild food beach party, an opportunity to meet the Highland cattle favoured by Gordon Ramsay’s top chefs and a behind the scenes tour of the most cow friendly dairy in the world.
The BBC’s Food Producer of the Year 2011 will show you how world class cheese is made and a masterchef masterclass invites you to test your culinary skills with a full day and evening in a pro kitchen. The current World Scotch Pie Champion will be setting a pie making challenge and there are steak nights aplenty, salmon smoking demos, trout fishing, a venison farm walk and chocolate making workshops to tempt your tastebuds.
Flavour Fortnight is organised by regional food group Savour the Flavours and funded by Dumfries & Galloway Council and EventScotland, and it is part of the Year of Creative Scotland 2012.
Liz Ramsay, Project Manager of Savour the Flavours, says the festival is a celebration of the quality food and drink produced in Dumfries & Galloway.
“Flavour Fortnight is very much about the produce and the people who create it. Each and every event and experience in the programme has been developed and hosted by the individual businesses.
“Many of the events are completely free of charge and the activities on offer give you a unique glimpse behind the scenes of food production and opportunities to have a go yourself. There is an astonishing variety of experiences within the Flavour Fortnightprogramme and it is wonderful to see how enthusiastically our local food and drink businesses share their passion for artisan produce.”
Flavour Fortnight runs from 25th August to 9th September and includes more than 100 events and experiences. The full programme can be viewed online at www.flavourfortnight.co.uk.
